Grace Frizer, (daughter of William Frizer). Norman S. Fitzhugh in an article entitled, “Captain John Ashton of Westmoreland County, VA and Some of His Descendants” which appeared in the W&MQ gives a detailed look at this family. He cites many of the assertions made regarding the various John Ashtons and separates them to the known facts. One tradition that he mentions is that Captain John Ashton was a younger son of the famous Assheton-Under-Lynne family of Lancashire, England and was an officer in the Army at the time of Cromwell’s Rebellion. Fitzhugh states that John was an officer in the Parliamentary Army and came to America during some of its reverses and had a brother, Ralph, who fought in the King’s Army and was made a baronet on the restoration of Charles II. Capt. John Ashton’s name first appeared in Westmoreland Co., VA records 15 Nov 1654 when he was granted 783 acres of land for the transportation of sixteen persons to VA. He was thirty-one years of age at that time according to his affidavit made in 1671. He is also referred to in the minutes of the House of Burgesses in 1661 as a person of some importance; one George Harwood being directed to ask forgiveness of Capt. John Ashton for slandering him. John was High Sheriff of Westmoreland Co., VA in 1664 and was on the Commission of Peace in 1672. The names of his children are established since they are mentioned in the will of William Frizer, proved in Westmoreland Co., VA 20 Nov 1677. 3. Main Street was a part of the Dumfries-Rappahannock Road, straightened for the purpose and widened to 55 feet, 7 1/4inches. A deed dated 11 August 1797 refers to it as Fauquier Court House now called the Town of Warrenton. Richard Henry Lee and his brother, Thomas Ludwell Lee, married sisters, daughters of William Aylett of Wesmoreland County. In 1741 William Aylett patented what is believed to have been the 2,825 acre tract at present day Markham, previously surveyed for Col. Charles Burgess. A new vestry was elected, they chose as rector the Reverend Mr. James Craig, who assumed the pulpit in 1762. Another division came in 1769, with the creation of Leeds Parish, above an east-west line passing through the southern outskirts of present Warrenton, just above Turkey Run Church. As Hamilton Parish retained the only two churches, it was assessed a sum toward the building of four small frame chapels in the new parish. The new vestry included a high percentage of the men who would be the leaders of Fauquier in the Revolutionary period. They were Martin Pickett, John O'Bannon, James Scott, Henry Peyton, Williams Edmonds, Humphrey Brooke, Samuel Grigsby,William Pickett and Charles Chinn The chapels were completed before March of 1772: Taylor's Church near Bethel, Goose Creek near Salem (Marshall), Bull Run in Prince William County, just across the line and Piper's Church on Thumb King William County, Virginia Vital Records AYLETT, Elizabeth H. 2nd d/o Philip Aylett d.d. 13 Nov 1818 age 21 POD Montville, King William, RE AYLETT, Louisa d.d. 18 Aug 1822 age 18 POR King William POD Montville, King William, RE AYLETT, Philip & Dandrige, Martha d/o of Col William Dandridge POR Elsing Green & Unity West DOM 1739 KWH AYLETT, Philip Jr. (Col.,) POR King William & Waller, J.P. only d/o Benjamin Waller (dec)POR King William DOM 20 Apr 1822 by Rev Robert B Semple, VG AYLETT, Philip s/o Philip & Elizabeth Aylett & Wallter, Judith Page; DOM 1823 KWH AYLETT, Philip s/o William & Mary Aylett & Henry, Elizabeth d/o Patrick Henry DOM 1786 KWH AYLETT, William POR King William & POSLY, Martha POR New Kent, DOM 29 Apr 1802 Va AYLETT, William s/o Philip & Judith Aylett &Brockenbrough, Alice and Judith Aylett; DOM 1860 KWH AYLETT, William s/o Philip & Judith Aylett & Macon, Mary; DOM 1766 KWH AYLETT, William will dated 12 Apr 1780 will probated 15 Jun 1780 at King William (Children stated as Philip, Elizabeth, William, Ann, Rebecca, wife Mary); VSA Land Office Military Box 3 -----Original Message----- From: hdavey@comcast.net [mailto:hdavey@comcast.net] Sent: Sunday, December 07, 2003 3:25 PM To: Tim Kreh Cc: VAFAUQUI-L@rootsweb.com Subject: {not a subscriber} ASHTON Tim According to the records of the Peyton Society of Virginia, Elizabeth Dent Ashton who m.
