    3. Jim, With the names you've presented, I presume you are referring to the Dodd family of Tinpot and not the Dodds of Loudoun Co. The Dodd homestead dates from the 1740s when Nathaniel and Sarah Dodd settled on Tinpot Run in southern (today) Fauquier. The location is just south of Opal and north of Remington. There is/was a small community there named Doddsville. He died in 1784 leaving a large estate and land holdings. Some of the children took their inheritance and went into NC and KY. The others, except for John, divided their father's lands and remained in the area. Son John took his inheritance and settled in Leeds Manor on South Run, a tributary off Carters Run. He purchased the Curtis grist mill. The location is just east of Orlean. The land book descriptions are vague, giving the nearest major watercourse - in this case Carters Run. John Dodd died in 1815 so I'm not sure which John Dodd you mean. He had a son John and several nephews also named John. The Hindall you mentioned may be "Kendall". There have been transcription errors. Not certain which is correct. Daniel McClaren lived near the TinPot Dodds on Marsh Run I believe. He married a Mary Dodd who is probably the daughter of Benjamin Dodd from a previously (unknown) marriage. Your message is unclear in its formatting if you are searching the Carter surname. There was a Francis Carter family in the Orlean area which had connections to the John Dodd family. They are no relation to the namesake of Carters Run, nor to the Carters of King Carter notoriety. Hope this helps.
