From "Fauquier During the Proprietorship" by H.C. Groome, pg. 105: Among the early settlers above the Pignut were some of the more adventurous spirits from the German community on Licking Run. Jacob Holtzclaw, February 9, 1725, had taken a grant of 496 acres on the south side of Broad Run (A:125). The references included in the text are to volume and folio of the Northern Neck Land Grants, a record preserved in the Land Office at Richmond. Pg. 122: A warrant was issued in the summer of 1718 for 1,805 acres lying on both sides of Licking Run, to Jacob Holtzclaw, John Hoffman, John Fishback, Peter Hitt, Harman Fishback, Tilman Weaver, John Spillman and several other Germans. Jacob's will was proved 29 Feb 1760. Hope this helps. Sandra
