I'm currently working with a group of SETTLE researchers. Our particular interest is the SETTLE family of Richmond Co, VA in the late 1600s through the 1700s. My ancestor, Thomas BARTLETT c1705-1783 of Lunenburg Par, Richmond Co, VA had children in the 1720s and 30s - one, John BARTLETT, married Anne SETTLE (daughter of Henry SETTLE, Will 1770 Richmond Co); they moved to Culpeper Co about 1760, and then to Fluvanna Co in 1791 where he died in 1807. Thomas BARTLETT and Henry SETTLE were in several records together in Richmond Co. Another son of Thomas, brother to John, was my ancestor, Thomas BARTLETT c1730-1806 who married an Anne and went to Fauquier Co, VA by 1768 (and in 1785 to Harrison Co). David Stigler died 1819 in Frederick Co., VA. I can't find a reference to his wife's maiden name, not even her first name as she was not mentioned in his will. David Stigler had about 8 children with this woman. She would have been born about 1740, married about 1765 and died about 1790. The witnesses on the Will of David Stigler were Larken Settle, Vincent Settle and Wilford G. Settle. James Hamrick is a son-in-law of David Stigler and Wilford G. Settle appears as witness on his will dated 1825 in Frederick Co., VA. James Hamrick was son of John Hamrick and Nancy Hazelrigg and grandson of Kitty Neavill. I've seen documents in Fauquier Minute Book about 1767 between David Stigler and the Neavill family. I also found a source that showed Wilford G. and Larken were sons of Captain Strother G. Settle and Dorothea Ash and Vincent Settle was son of John Settle. I'm told that John Settle and Captain Strother Settle were sons of John Settle and Ann Newsom. All the references I've seen only show sons in the family and no daughters. One last clue, Nancy Hamrick granddaughter of David Stigler married James Strother on 26 Nov 1823 in Fauquier Co., VA. They had son William Larken Strother. I found out that James Strother was grandson of Robert Strother and Elizabeth Berry of King George, VA. Nancy Hamrick is great granddaughter of James Stigler of King George, VA. The Strother and Stigler names were often interchanged on documents in King George.
