    1. Moorman Family - Quakers - Some Possible Leads
    2. Just to satisfy my curiosity, I did a google.com search for *Moorman family* (The Moormans wer neighbors of my Harris family in Albemarle Co., VA, which was formed from Louisa Co. and perhaps from Goochland Co.) This was posted ca 2001 on the Moorman genforum. It is message 528 of 706 messages and was posted by Kat Valish. This is secondary information and should be confirmed with further research. I found this in the book Five Hundred First Families of America by Compiled and edited by Alexander DuBin, Fourth Edition, 1972-1973,The Historical Publication Society, One East Forty Second Street, New York, New York 10017, page 228. Revolutionary Ancestor The Moormans, who were Quakers, to escape persecution, left England. Zachariah Moorman, his wife and three children, Thomas, Charles, and Sallie, came from the Isle of Wight Co.,1670 and settled in Nancemond Co.,Va. Thomas Moorman, his wife Elizabeth and children, Mary, Andrew and Charles, moved, sometime before 1744, to Green Springs, Louisa Co., Va. Charles Moorman, born 1684, died 1756, was a leading Quaker. He married in 1710, Elizabeth Reynolds, daughter of Christopher Reynolds. They had, Thomas, Judith, Ann, Achilles and Charles. Thomas Moorman, born 1712, died 1766;patented land in Albemarle Co., Va near a stream which was called Moorman River. Moved to Bedford Co., Va. He married in 1730, Rachel Clark, daughter of Christopher Clark (Quaker lawyer and justice of the peace of Louisa Co., Va in 1742) and wife Penelope Bowling. They had 12 children of whom Charles was the 8th child. Charles Moorman, born 1747, died 1803, Bedford Co., Va. He served in the American Revolution. Was wounded at the battle of Guilford Court House. Married 1782, Nancy Hancock, born 1762, died 1847, daughter of Simon and Jane (Flournoy) Hancock. (Well, yes, they did migrate, did they not?) Persons interested in abstracts of early Louisa Co. records, including some vestry books and some tithable lists may want to view this website. Remove the parens before cutting and pasting in the search area. _(_http://www.angelfire.com/va3/redavis/_ (http://www.angelfire.com/va3/redavis/) )_ Roots web does not like us to post URLs, but sometimes they can be modified n a message.
