    3. The Quakers in that area of North Carolina migrated there beginning in the late 1740's from other areas, primarily, Southeast PA including DE and NJ by way of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia; from tidewater, VA migrating westward; and from Nantuckett, MA after the decline of the whaling industry. The tendancy was to sell their inheritance after their father's death and move to the current frontier where they could buy enough land to farm. Beginning around 1800 the Quakers began leaving North Carolina and moving to Ohio because of the question of Slavery. Around 1820 the new destination was Indiana then Illinois, California, Washington state, etc... There were often moves of great distances, sometimes several times in one lifetime. The fact that both families were Quaker, living in areas with high concentrations of Quakers, and having a name that is not altogether common leaves a good likelihood that they are related. The Quakers moved a lot and almost always married other Quakers Getting back to Fauquier county, does anyone know about early Quaker's in Fauquier? I know there were some near where I am (northwest county) but my great grandparents (Turnbull) lived at Melrose Castle and later Innwood in Casanova. I don't know if they were Quaker but her grandparents definitely were. Also their best friends, the Nourses lived next door to Inwood at a place called Weston and were supposedly Quakers from New England. I have not seen anything about Quaker meetings in that area and was wondering if anyone knew anything about them. Exactly, that is why I sent the info from Vol. 1 NC, Vol. 6 VA then Vol. 5 Ohio It appears Benjamin & Rachel came from NC to VA and then to Ohio - . I've traced quite a few families in the volumes of the Encyclopedia over the years and many came from VA to NC and then to Ohio or MO. Nancy
