Before this goes much further... Rent Rolls are not tax lists, nor were tax lists necessarily compiled from rent rolls. I would suggest a review of Alcock's "Fauquier Families" in which he has abstracted the the tax year information and generalized location of the individual. There are other references as well. Some of the Fairfax rent roll information too is available in various references. If you really want to learn more of location, the county Land Books are invaluable, giving status (Fee Simple), distance and direction (compass heading) from the court house, and nearest major watercourse.
