    1. Re: William White Sr Will
    2. Virginia L. "Ginny" Keefer
    3. A lady named Diettrick lived in College Park, Maryland and filed D.A.R. for my William White born ca 1730. She filed for his daughter, Hannah White, who married Thomas Russell James in Fauquier Co VA. She was accepted. She listed William White's wife as Mary ____. Mary would have died prior to William. William made out his will in 1797 at Haymarket, Prince William Co VA and listed his children and second wife, Ann. William died in Oct 1804 and his land was then called Fauqueir Co VA. Haymarket was a bustling place when he lived there. It was located where the main road from PA went down to GA. etc south. I have seen the children listed for this William White for several years but he never had a son named William which was odd for those years. Finally a lady sent me a list of loose papers that had been found and are being kept in Woodruff Files in Fauquier Co Court House at Warren, VA. I used the information given and ordered the papers. Lo and Behold, He had a son named William. I always thought my William White was his eldest son. Perhaps because William stopped by Alexandria to see his brother John whom he found too ill to continue and took his place for several weeks. John caught up with his men while they were on a march to Willimasburg and relieved William to continue home. William did sign up again but took leave due to his own illness just before the end of the war. Somehow, I had it in my mind William was checking on a young brother. Anyway, you note in William White Sr's will, he mentions John as inheriting almost everthing like a first born son would in thos years. There was hard feelings for sure between William Sr and William Jr and father said near the bottom of his will that his son William was to be given on shilling current Virginia money and never no more even to his heirs. Yet William was at all the court trials from 1804 to 1825 helping his siblings get the will probated and settled. William remarried after Mary ---died to the widow of James Bailey. Her name was Ann _____. Wish I knew her maiden name. I am not sure which James Bailey she was widow too. Must have been Carr Bailey Sr's son James. William and Ann had no children together. She had 4 children by James Bailey that William White was made guardian of in court. I have had a copy of those papers for years. William, Thomas, Nanny and one other, prob James. There is a court paper that Mrs. White be given a debt owed to William White Sr after his death. There is another one that gives her 1/3 like a child from a parent would get too. Cant recall that father's name but think it was Mathis. Will look it up. I ordered about 75 pages of those court papers about the will. It states in it that John White, son of William White Sr. married Ann Bailey. I got the impression it was his step mother??? We have a cousin [who descends from Carr Bailey White who was born in Stokes Co and died in Lincoln Co TN] that I have sent a copy of all the papers. Paul R. White is a practicing attorney in Nashville and we will wait for him to give his educated opinion of whom John White married. definitely Ann Bailey, but was she the widow of his father????? Wm Sr. said Ann Bailey White would hold the strings for his property until she died or remarried. She fought having the land probated. William White's dau. Sarah, married George Roach and they lived in Prince William Co VA. All the other children listed in the will were living in Mason Co KY at least from 1804 when Wm died to 1816 when they each sent George Roach legally signed papers allowing George Roach to sell their share of their father's land for them. I hve copies of each of those letters. When the land was appraised, William Hunton, a next door neighbor of Wm White Sr and Wm's son in law, George Roach did the appraisal of the property. in Oct 1804. Then after the court ordered Ann to probate the will, George Roach sold the land to the next door neighbor, Wm. Hunton. The court case went on until 1825 which is probably when Ann Bailey White died. George Roach was deceased by them and Ann Bailey White's son, Thomas Bailey, was part of the executors who sold the land. I have copies all almost all of Wm White Sr's children's marriage bonds. William could not write. It seems to me that John White lived in Fauquier Co VA after his father's death. Yet, in 1840 US census showing soldiers still alive and receiving pensions, there is a John White age 78 living in northern Mason Co KY with Caleb White, son? I thought that was John as he lived there while the courts were churning on this will. My William was no doubt living in Stokes Co NC as that is where his children were born. It is same place that was called Rown Co NC before they cut old Rowan down to size. William White was there about 1786. He bought land from Isaac White in 1800 on Reedy Creek up close to top center of NC among the Moravians that William Jr appeared so often as witnesses for and with. There was no relationship mentioned between Isaac and William. I wonder if Isaac was his uncle??? I have a copy of that land sale. I was accepted into D.A.R. on William White Jr. His neighbors in Lincoln CO TN thought highly of him so I was surprised to see that he had such a severe problem with his father. There is a notice in a book about William White sueing Thomas James in Fauquier Co VA and the case being dropped due to death of the plantiff. I thought this to be William White Sr and his son in law.?? I believe it was in 1797 though. Will have to check athat date. William White Sr was very actice in Fauqueir Co. His x was on many documents, road improvements etc. His land adjoined the corners of Parnack George, his old friend and several others. All whose surnames appear in Lancaster Co VA with a William White. I wonder if my William White Sr b ca 1730 had a father named John since he named his first born, John. That was the habit the, First after the pateranl grandfather, second after the maternal grandfather, third after the father and fourth after the father's eldest brother as I recall. Correct me when necessary. I take that well and appreiciate the help.I am pleased with the work you do. Any ideas of how to obtain a copy of a land grant in Lincoln Co TN? When my William White, Rev War soldier, died May 6, 1833 in Iincoln Co TN, the land had to sit until his eldest son , James Franklin White born Aug 10, 1816 Stokes Co NC, obtained legal age to sell the land with the help of his younger brother, Carr Bailey who was 19 when James became 21.. They started selling the land in June 1837 and it was finalized in Dec 1837 Lincoln Co Court. They had a hold up with the court requiring them to have a copy of the land grant. They finally got the grant and sold the land to G.W.Martin. The land was located on Stephen's Creek and is supposed to be listed in Deed Book K-1, page 356 in Lincoln Co TN. I would love a copy of the deed. I am not sure where Stephen's Creek is located in Lincoln Co TN. I am sure my Rev War, soldier, William White and wife Elizabeth would have been buried on this land or at a near church or chapel neara by. I have been told they are buried on a hill.??. Anyone with any clues about where G.W. Martin's land was located to help me pinpoint where they could be buried.? I would like to have a D.A.R. marker on his graves even without him having a stone. I would get some of my cousins to help me purchase him a stone if we could find the place and get premission to do so. Children of William White Sr b ca 1730, died 1804 Haymarket, Prince William Co VA, married Mary ____. were; 1. Elizabeth Ann died after 23 May, 1816 md Feb 28, 1786 to James Bailey in Fauquier Co VA. [brother of Carr Bailey Jr] James died in war time young. 2. Jemima [Mima] [died aft Mar 22, 1816 when her father died] md 1st George Green Waddell in Fauquier Co VA, md 2nd 1847 Stephen Wade in Mason Co KY. She moved away ARK?? seems like. Will have to check my papers. 3. John White [Rev War soldier] b 1753m married Ann White ????? step mother??? 4. William White Jr. b 10 J1n 1755 Fauq Co VA, died May 6, 1833 Lincoln Co TN. Had at least 2 children in my opinion' Thomas J. White who seemed to hav a mental problem and required care and lived in Lincoln Co TN at times, and Edith Chapman White who married in Stokes Co NC to James Tucker and brought her children to Lincoln Co TN to complete their raising. My Rev War soldier, William White's grandson, William Clark White, was murdered Christmas Eve at his farm home door, he was shot to death. Returning discouraged Congf soldiers and skallawags came from twon to Wm's front gate. They were drunken and load. They demanded to know where William has hidden what little stock he had left and Wm refused to tell them. Wm's neighbors testified at the military trail that they had seen about 200 of Wm's Hogs being taken to town by the soldiers, They had seen soldiers riding Wm's horses in town and much more was taken. Wm White had 9 children under 16 andd a new bady due shortly. When Wm. Refused to tell them where what he had saved to feed his own large family, a young soldier on a horse right in front of Wm White shot Wm dead. Many of his neighbors had scurried through the bushes from town to see what the drunken soldiers were up to and several of Wm White's children and his wife were near him when he was murdered. He wife delivered William Clark [Babe] White within hours after seeing her sons murdered while standing next to her. She stated that two of her husband's nephews were among the gang. She said they were The Tucker boys and named them. When she asked one of the Tucker boys the name of the yuong man from Lawrence Co TN was, he heistiated but then told her he was Benjamin Franklin Herron, called William F. Herron in many of the court trials and said to have been only 14 when he was 17 at the time. When the soldiers refised to help Eliza get her husband into the house, she asked one of the Tucker nephews to run save her daughter, Charlotte, that she had sent to the nearest neighbor for hep and Herron rode hard after her. Tucker saved her life. The Tucker boys did nothing except be present. Even tried to help. Their mother was Edith Chapmen White who married James Tucker. Thus Edith had to have been a daughter of Rev War soldier by his 1st wife, Mary. I have looked for Chapman and White marriages in Rowan Co NC and Fauq Co VA to no avail. I think Thomas J. White was a son of that 1st marriage too. Wm White Sr married Elizabeth ___ who was 20 years younger than he in NC. Wm was aged 58 when their first child together was born 1814 NC named Martha md Mar 26, 1840 L:in Co TN to Samuel C. Miles. There were several White young men living in Stokes Co and Lincoln Co that could have been sons of Wm by his unk first marriage but I have found no proof of a connection. 5. Nancy Ann b 1764 Fauq. Co md Oct 31, 1786 William Waddell Sr. 6. Hannah b ca 1765 Fauq. died 1840 Clay Co IN, md Dec 13, 1787 Fauq. Co to Thomas Russell James. 7. Sarah b ca 1768 Fauq. Co married Aug 25, 1789 Fauq. Co to George Roach. Later lived in Pr Wm Co VA. 8. Carr White b ca 1777 Fauq Co d aft May 6, 1816 , married Nancy Donaldson, dau of John from Fauq. Co VA. All of above Children lived in Mason Co KY at least from 1804 to 1816 except; Sarah lived in Pr Wm Co VA and Wm Jr lived in Stokes Co NC still called Rowan Co NC then. I have been unable to locate Sam and Martha in Lincoln Co TN 1880 census. I am packing to move to Las Vegas so I do not have material to check. I received a packet several years ago and it seems to me they moved elsewhere but I am not sure. Will let you know when I get settled in Nov.
