I believe it was Jim Burgess who asked about DeBord. I do not have a specific answer to his question. However, since there is a rumor among my distant cousins that we are descended from one Roger Williams of early Northern Neck Virginia and from his wife Joan [who had two other husbands besides Roger], I pick up whatever clues I can find. It seems Joan's daughter Ann Williams may have married a James DeBord. Perhaps some of these notes can help you sort out some of these folks. When studying Northern Neck folks, it seems I have study all the parent and progeny counties in order to pick up clues. Here goes: ANNE WILLIAMS (married by 1703) She, Anne, wife of James DeBord, is named in the 1703 will of her mother Joan Frith [surname is in dispute among us cousins]. Anne's father may have been any of the three husbands of Joan (--) Williams, later wife of ......, later wife of ......... Later, the names of Wm. Debord and David Debord are found on lists of Orange Co., VA tithables for the years 1747 and 1748. They are not listed for subsequent years. (Barbara Vines Little, ORANGE COUNTY, VIRGINIA TITHABLES 1734-1782, PART I [Orange, VA: Dominion Market Research Corp., 1988], p. 26) JAMES DEBORD or DEBOARD, probably of Richmond Co., VA ca 1713. He probably was of legal age in 1713, Richmond Co., VA as his name appears as a landholder, but apparently his land is in dispute as is that of some of his neighbors. Richmond County Court 6th of August 1713 - Moore Fantleroy, Gent., one of the Processioners appointed for one of the precincts of Northfarnham Pish refuseing to procession severall parcells of land held by Thomas Beale, Thomas Williams, Joseph Deeke, Gilbert Metcalfe, William Yeats, Roger Thornton and James DeBoard alledging that the same or greatest part thereof belonged to him, Whereupon it was ordered that the Surveyor and a Jury should lay out the same, and the Jury having returned their report, it is at the motion of Moore Fanteleroy ordered to be recorded.. This is about the mother of Ann DeBord. As indicated, Mrs.Joan Loyd was widowed three times. Her last husband was Lewis Loyd. Her first husband was Roger Williams, the father of her son Shaddrack Williams (named in the will), also of Roger Williams II, and possibly the father of Ruth Williams Canterbury. Seemingly, there were other Williams daughters: Betty, as named in their father's will; Rebecca: Susannah, wife of William Phillips); and Anne, wife of James DeBord and later in the mother's will. In her will, written 8 Jan 1703, proved 2 Feb 1703/04, Joan Loyd named two other daughters: Susannah, wife of William Phillips, and Anne, wife of James DeBord. She named several sons-in-law: George Thompson (also her executor), William Phillips and the aforementioned John Canterbury. She named her daughter-in-law Elizabeth Williams, deduced to be wife of said Shaddrack Williams, but possibly a stepdaughter, "Betty Williams,' as named in the will of Roger Williams, Sr. Several grandchildren were named: Elizabeth Thornhill, Susan Phillips, and John McDaniel. (Was Rebecca the wife of John McDaniel?) Refer to Robert K. Headley, Jr. WILLS OF RICHMOND COUNTY, VIRGINIA 1699-1800 [Baltimore: Clearfield Publishing Co., 1998 reprint of 1983 edition], p. 11. My husband and I have searched every county around Fauquier county only to find that we MUST expand our research to ALL the counties. I wish I knew this about 10 years ago.
