    3. Remember that in colonial times congregations did not meet weekly. It might have been an weekend trip to Dumfries (or wherever) for market or court appearance, when the minister was preaching. Or, perhaps the minister was out and about, preaching at a "chapel of ease," when he baptized and/or married people who lived in the western lands. People would also cross Parish lines if there wasn't a minister in residence close to home. Several parishes were vacant for extended time periods. LVA publishes 3 good books dealing with Virginia Parishes. The one dealing with our area is "Parish Lines Diocese of Virginia." Start with it. Ms. Marty Hiatt, CGRS "Document what you find, listen to what you are told, and especially, love and respect your work." John Morris CGRS is a service mark of the Board for Certification of Genealogists, used under license after periodic evaluations by the Board. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Skip" <fflat@worldnet.att.net> To: <VAFAUQUI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 28, 2004 2:49 AM Subject: [VAFAUQUI] Location of Overwharton Parish > 01/27/04 > Listers: > > Does anyone know where the general boundries > of the Overwharton Parish were? > > I had always assumed the Episcopal church > at Aquia in Stafford was the focal point; And > it included the general area within the present > day Stafford County. > > Here is my problem: I have some people listed as > born and married in Overwharton Records; But they > are NOT on the personal property tax records.
