I have received from my cousin a list of names of the appraisers of my ancestor William Toliver Turner's estate in Fauquier County in 1865. Maybe some of the appraisers are YOUR acnestors. Court ordered 25 Sep 1865 that Thomas G. Marshall, John Bowie, Wm. C. Stribling, Joseph Davis and George Strother or any three of them, being duly sworn, do appraise the personal estate of William T. Turner, dec'd. Appraised on 12/21/1865, total $216.50 (15 items, 3 farm animals, bedding and F & F. (Note: Their was no Bible mentioned and did not list his wife or any children or relatives. It is assumed he died about 1865. I checked Fauquier Co VA Court House - 1861 through 1865 death records and did not find him listed. However, their was a gap in the records prior to 1864 probably because of the war between the states - ________ ) <<<During the war between the states the following story was told by our great-grandmother Martha Jane (Turner) Anderson to her children. That about 1864-1865 her father (William Toliver Turner) was driving his wagon home with food from a store and the Union Soldiers seized his wagon, horse and food. He was forced to walk home in the snow and cold weather, came down with pneumonia and died. His wife (Martha Jane (White) Turner was left a widow with eight children. (Source: Annie L.
