For the new researchers who are interested in Virginia, I want to recommend Chalkley's Chronicles. They mostly cover old Augusta Co Virginia. That county covered a lot of today's counties. There are three volumes. At the beginning of each volume, scroll to the bottom of the volume to locate the index for a quick look at particular surnames.
