Hello list.... are there any Jeffries researchers on the list ? James Jeffries (wife Hannah, sons John & Elias) leased 250 acres (out of a tract of 993 acres, lying on Goose Creek in Fauquier Co, VA) from Thomas Massie on 24 April 1793. I'm trying to locate that 993 acre tract, because my ancestor (Vincent Lake), Benage Grubbs and Archibald McLaren also leased land (29 Dec. 1787) from Massie in the same tract. While I have found the above 4 sub-leases (3 of them several years ago), I cannot find the basic lease for the 993 acres. I have assumed the tract was near Linden (apparrently incorrectly) and that the land was leased from Lord Fairfax in the Manor of Leeds. The tract may be, however, further downstream (east towards Upperville) on Goose Creek, outside of the Manor of Leeds. I have looked at all of the Massie Leases in Fauquier Deed Books 9, 10 & 11 without success (as I recently learned, 5 of the Massie leases have Manor of Leeds tract numbers in the Josiah Dickinson book, but none of them are for the 993 acre tract). I'm sort of hoping that there might be a Jeffries researcher on the list who is smarter than I am (or just possibly "luckier"), and who knows where the lease may be found (or better yet where the land is in terms of todays geography). Actually a lot of you must be smarter than I am, so if you have any ideas how/where to look for the 993 acre lease, please chime in. Thanks and Happy Valentines Day.
I'm researching a Henry family that I understand may have lived for some time in Fauquier Co. Enoch Henry was born in 1780 in Shenandoah Co., VA most likely to Moses Henry b. 1754 who enlisted in the Rev. War in Shenandoah Co. according to his pension file. In 1783 Moses, and Aaron, and Samuel show up in the Shenandoah Co. tax list. Aaron Henry married Harriet Rutter the daughter of a Hezekiah Ritter/Rutter also believed to have lived in Fauquier Co. prior to going to Shenandoah. Moses was probably married before moving to Shenandoah. There is no record of him marrying there. I believe Hezekiah Ritter or Rutter lived in Charles Co., MD before moving to Fauquier Co. Enoch Henry eventually (1806) moved to Ohio with several other families from Virginia, (Decker, Ritter, Bell, Corder, Lewin, Renick, Spitler, Hite, etc., etc., etc.). Anything anyone can do to point me in the right direction will certainly be appreciated. Thank you.
