There is a James Rogers listed as military appointee - clerk of court for one year in 1870; there are six seperate John Smith's listed although one is John A. W. Smith, one John P. Smith and one Capt John Smith; another list member asked about Spicer. An Alban Smith Payne used the synonym Nicholas Spicer to publish several others. He was born in 1822 at 'Granville" in Fauquier County and died in 1891. "His personal strength was legendary and his knocking down of a bully named Patterson at a medical convention in richmond, was the origin of the sly line, "Who Struck Billy Patterson?" His sporting memoirs of Fauquier make up a mahor portion of a biography of Dr. PPayne by Frederick W. Franck. There is also mention of several Grigsby family members including Alexander 208 Elizabeth Butler, 268 John, 268 Mr. 128 Nathaniel, 268 Samuel, 85 William, 268 page 268 is a discussion of the Jackson Farm on Rt 691 near Marshall that was originally the Grigsby Farm "It is not clear whether John Grigsby or his son Nathaniel was the first owner of this land but it passed next to Nathaniel's son William, who married Jane King, daughter of George King, a Revolutionary Soldier.
