Does the name either Richard Turner or Frederick Turner in 1890-1900 ring the bell? If it does, please contact me and identify him. I would like to know more about him, for he may or may not have been connected with my ancestor William Toliver Turner, but it would be worth a try to find out who Richard / Frederick Turner is. My cousin James has sent me the following information about Richard/Frederick Turner as follows. My ancestor William Toliver Turner's widowed wife Martha Jane (White) Turner moved from Waterloo, Fauquier Co. VA to Washington, D.C. in or just before 1891 at the age of 75. At first, my cousin and I did not know why she and some of her children moved to Washington, D.C. After my cousin's research, we now think we will find out why soon if we dig more deeply about Richard Turner. He says that the Polk Directories for Washington, D.C. lists Mrs. Martha Turner as a resident at 1205 4th Street, SE from 1891 to her death in 1904. From the same source, he just so happened to come across another Turner that resided on the very same block -- "Frederick Turner, 1225 4th Street, SE." To know more about Frederick Turner, yy cousin decided searched for the Frederick Turner in the 1900 Federal Census and located him under the name "Richard Turner" at the very same address (no "Frederick"). Richard and his wife and children were born in Maryland (source: Wash. DC 1900 census, Roll #164, ED #133, p. 258). Since listed at the same address, we believe that Richard's middle name is probably "Frederick". What I know for a fact is that my great-grandmother was born at Dorcas (Turner) Clarkson's granddaughter Mrs. Eliza Steptoe (Clarkson) Marshall's home. Dorcas was herself a native of Charles County, Md, moving to Fauquier Co. Va. in the late 1770s. I looked at the map and, true enough, Charles Co. Md. is near both VA and MD.
