    3. To all, There is a great article in the Giles County Virginia History and Families Book Vol 1 on Daniel Shumate. It said he and his wife Millie left Fauquier County and settled in Rich Creek VA in 1780( which was Greenbrier Co.and now Giles Co.,VA). I believe the Shumate (Shoemate) were the first family to settle in Rich Creek and received a Land Grant of 300 acres of land. He acquiered over a thousand acres of land and owned 7 slaves at his death. He is buried in Sunrise Memorial Gardern at Rich Creek VA. Several families in Giles Co.,VA orginally came from Fauquier Co. VA., including a few that I'm researching. Lois
