Ginny, Wow, sorry if I offended you. Who said they lied.. all I said was that some Native Americans were also listed as Free Persons of Color. If you look at records and the person is listed as a free person of color and you happen to know from researching that the family was really Native American.. But researchers just looking at records wouldn't know if the person listed was actually African American or Native American, so knowing that they were listed that way would be needed information too. You can also find surnames in the early records recording the Native Americans. (The Lost Colony and Jamestown have some of the earliest records available.) These families were also in VA, NC, SC, GA. Merry Christmas LOL.. who isn't relaxed.... I have white relatives who I know where white and the listed them as colored in the marriage register.
Hi, Some errors were made out of it being a real mistake, but some listings were on purpose as in listing Native Americans as Free People of Color. Thier status wasn't considered any better then the free people's of color status. in some census Slaves were recorded as can't remember, but it was either 1/2 or 3/4s of a person. This type of knowledge is needed when studing /researching in the early records of the Eastern States, such as VA. The more knowledge a person has, the better you are at understanding what your relatives went through in thier lives... [email protected], not to start an up roar... but are you sure they were white? have you had thier descendants DNA tested? You would be (can be ) suprised at what results can be found.. no not those tests that estimate your percentage of this or that... I mean a real test of your Haplogroup to find out what it is, Certain haplogroups are found mainly in Native Americans and others are different for African Americans. Soooooo.... we all have those questions.. LOL no don't say you know for sure because my family is English or what ever... The Romans brought soldiers of a Morish ancestry, African ancestry, German ancestry, and others to England. But additionally Native American haplogroups have been found in England...Believed to be descendants of NA taken to England in the 1500 - 1600s. A lot of the early records are still in England.. from 1587 The Lost Colony .. Roanoke Island, NC to the Rev War time period. There are also the Spanish records for areas controled by Spain...Florida, lower Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama areas, French for Louisiana... We have to know some history to know who controled what... Nelda: I was excited to visit your website and see numerous Gordon's in your family tree. I was hoping that Elmer Gordon who had 8 sons would connect but they do not. Keep up the good work. Happy Holidays!
