    3. I did not realize there were any mistakes. I just forwarded the site as I found it. I saw many whom I knew were White but as I read it, it did not say they were black. It implied they were the plantation owners, like Howson Hooe, instructing or using them as slaves. I am truly SORRY I tried to share the info. I thought that most blacks surnames came from their plantation owners, whether now free or not. Therefore if there were blacks in an area there must have been white's of same names. I have received more complaints about foolishness instead of anyone actually reading it to see it their surname was among them. Oh well, learned a lesson. Ginny [email protected]

    3. Genny, Why the "I did not realize there were any mistakes. I just forwarded the site as I > found it." Who said there was errors?? You did a good thing! you sent a website where additional information can be found.. That is excellent! THank you.. keep up the good work.. My comments were just additional information and not correcting yours...That was why I still do not understand your being so hipper about my addition.. Yes, sometimes freed slaves took on the ex-owners surname, also not all freed slaves wanted thier owners surnames.. but not "all" Free people of Color were ever Slaves! They had it hard as they had to prove they were not runaway slaves pretending to be free people of color... No historical time period or events have absolutes.. things vary.. so did the reasons behind things.. I'm sorry you took anything I wrote as personal to yourself.. Never! Communication is a way of learning...sometimes we learn new things sometimes we don't.. but never a waste of time.
