I have a very basic question I'm embarrassed to ask but I must - in reading this example for a Guardian Bond, does this mean John Hitt is "deceased," and the Guardian Bond is dated 26 Feb 1806? or does it mean that John Hitt died 26 Feb 1806? ELIJAH HITT, gdn. of Elizabeth Hitt, orph. of John Hitt, dec'd. 26 February 1806. For: $200. Sec: Francis (his X mark) James. J.P.: Wm. Gibson, John A. Armistead, William Brown, William Horner, Gent. Thank you for your anticipated gentle response - Joan
I interpret it to mean that Elizabeth is the dau of John Hitt who is dead. This guardian bond was made on 26 Feb 1806. Elijah Hitt, who is probably a relative, is the guardian.
