    1. Re: [VAFAUQUI] Fauquier County Guardian Bonds
    2. ?Yes, John Hitt is deceased, but his death date was not 2/26/1806 it was the guardian bond that took place as of that date. For futher reference the dates on the guardian bonds I send are dates of the bonds not the deaths unless stated otherwise. The bonds from 1818 to 1871, except for the years 1834 to 1850, are contained in bound volumes now in the Archives Division, Virginia State Library, Richmond, Virginia.? The guardian was required by law to give an account of his ward's estate and the Court audited and recorded such accounts. Frequently, guardianships were revoked by the Court for failing to appropriately administer a ward's estate. -----Original Message----- From: Joan Norstedt <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Cc: [email protected] Sent: Thu, 10 Jan 2008 10:25 am Subject: [VAFAUQUI] Fauquier County Guardian Bonds I have a very basic question I'm embarrassed to ask but I must - in reading this example for a Guardian Bond, does this mean John Hitt is "deceased," and the Guardian Bond is dated 26 Feb 1806? or does it mean that John Hitt died 26 Feb 1806? ELIJAH HITT, gdn. of Elizabeth Hitt, orph. of John Hitt, dec'd. 26 February 1806. For: $200. Sec: Francis (his X mark) James. J.P.: Wm. Gibson, John A. Armistead, William Brown, William Horner, Gent. 3. Thank you all who replied to my question. I was assuming it was the bond date, and not the actual date the person died, but then, we all know assumptions don't always work in genealogy! Joan
