June ===================================================================== Hi June, I haven't heard much about this project since I wrote that story. I do know it is still being worked on, but I don't have any details about when it will be made public. If I do hear anything, I will let you know. Thanks, Tara Laskowski Public Relations Manager Media Relations George Mason University Phone: 703-993-8815 Fax: 703-993-8784 [email protected] ====================================================================== April 20, 2004 By Tara Laskowski?????????????? [email protected] Fauquier County recently commissioned The Department of History and Art History to compile information for its semiquincentennial--a task that may be as difficult as the word is to pronounce. Working with the county's Historical Society and other community organizations, the department will publish a book with photographs, text, and captions highlighting the history of Fauquier County in celebration of its 250th anniversary in 2009. The book will include information on certain key events in the county's history, including Native American history, the inheritance of the land by Thomas, Sixth Lord Fairfax in 1719, the development of the first small communities, the naming of the county, the military action during the Civil War, and challenges faced by the county in the 20th and 21st centuries. Professors Jane Turner and Peter Henriques, the historical consultants for the project, as well as alumna Kathi Ann Brown, (MA '88), author of the project, will gather photographs, maps, newspapers, engravings, prints, and other documents. "We're extremely excited about this project. It's a chance for us to work with historically knowledgeable people in Fauquier and make a contribution to our region," says Jack Censer, chair of the Department of History and Art History. "We hope this outreach will be a first in our effort to assist local institutions and organizations involved in public history." Funding for the project is from public and private donors to the Fauquier County Historical Society ________________________________________________________________________ More new features than ever.
