I wanted to follow up with a tremendous THANK YOU to MIKE BURKE for getting in touch with the most precise directions you can imagine to the grave of Patriot William Burk. I've never met him but talk about going above and beyond the call of duty, he did it! The Culpeper Minute Men had a ceremony back in 1991 to mark the grave but I never could get directions and I can well understand why. This little area of graves is in a very remote area and had it not been for Mike driving all the way from Herndon, VA over to blaze a trail for us, we never would have found it. Plus there was an electronic gate which was locked. Artie got Mike on the phone and he said the gate was always open...accept when I drive couple hundred miles from NC! So there we were knocking on the door of the house that faces the drive. A wonderful lady answered the door, checked us out and determined we weren't robbers so she went into action and called the person who had the code and we got through the gate. What a nice lady! From there, we followed a gravel road and turned off onto more like a tractor path that went up and down extreme terrain and finally ended in a field. We then drove through waste high grass while hugging the tree line of this field until we saw markers tied to trees and parked. We saw a slight clearing in the trees and waded through the grass into a semi opening in dense thicket and saw headstones. We found William Burk's grave all the while swatting bugs and man was it hot! The other stones aren't marked but you can still see the W.B. like the picture from 1991. I'm sharing this with you all because one of the ladies with us said that there was guy by name of Larry Payne and his wife that are currently going around to all the gravesites of Patriots and recording the locations etc. That way if the land is ever developed, these graves will be on record and not bulldozed over with an "oops, we didn't know". Can anyone put me in touch with this person? I'm trying to contact Culpeper Minute Men to share these directions and current photo as well. If anyone has contemplated trying to find a grave, don't give up and keep trying--it's well worth it! My thanks to all of you, Amanda
