Brad, This is not a direct answer to your question, but may be of help to you in your search. Attached below is what I have written up so far on Verlinda (Wright) (Greenin) Peck. The unusual given name Verlinda connected with the surname Peck indicates a probable family connection with your Verlinda (Peck) Gough. Best wishes, Robert N. Grant 15 Campo Bello Court Menlo Park, CA 94025 *Excerpt from John Wright (Westmoreland County Overseer):* A. _Virlinda Or Virlandoe (Wright) (Greenin) Peck, Her Husbands Owen Greenin And Robert Peck, And Her Descendants _ Virlandoe (Wright) (Greenin) Peck was a daughter of John Wright (Overseer of Westmoreland County) and _____ (Williams) Wright. (John1) In his work "Some Descendants of Richard Wright, Gentleman, of London, England, and Northumberland, Va., 1655," published _in Tyler's Quarterly Historical and Genealogical Magazine_, Vol. I, pages 127-141 and 177-191, 1919, and reprinted in _Genealogies of Virginia Families From Tyler's Quarterly Historical and Genealogical Magazine_, published by Genealogical Publishing Company, Baltimore, Maryland, 1981, Charles Arthur Hoppin stated as follows with regard to John Wright (Overseer of Westmoreland County): "One June 30, 1709: "Ordered Virlandoe Wright, daughter of John Wright of Upper Machotique, mark of Cattle & Hoggs be Recorded. [Westmoreland Orders &c. 1705 to 1721, page 126.]" Greening - (And Variants) Early Records by Sadie Greening Sparks stated that: 1) On October 25, 1725, at North Neck Grant A/190 Owen Greenin was granted 467 acres of land in King George County on the branches of Summerduck Run; 2) On February 4, 1730, at Northern Neck Grant C/96 Owen Grinan of King George County was granted 119 acres of land in King George County adjacent to his existing land; and 3) On September 1, 1731, at Northern Neck Grant D/28 Owen Grinan of Prince William County was granted 481 acres of land on the northern head branch of Broad Run. On October 18, 1731, at Prince William County, Virginia, D.B. B/64 Vellender Greenin appointed John Wright, Gentleman, her attorney in fact to acknowledge her right of dower in 200 acres of land sold by her husband Owin Greenin: "Know all men by these Presents that I Vellender Greenin the Wife of Owin Greein of the Parish of Hanover in the County of Pr. Wm. Doe Constitute and appoint Jon. Wright Gent to acknowledge my right of Dowrey and thirds at the Common Law of in to Two hundred acres of Land Sold by my Said Husband unto William McBee and his heirs for Ever relation thereto being had it doth and may fully and at Large Appear and for so Doing this shall be his Sufficient Warrent as witness my hand and Seal this Eighteen Day of Obr Anno Domini 1731 Signed Sealed and De- Vellender V Greenin livered In the Presence her mark and Seal of us Tested by Owin Greenin, Thos :T Dunigan At a Court Continued & held for Prince William County the Twenty first Day of october 1731 The Within Power of Atturney from Vellender Greenon to John Wright was Proved by the oaths of the Witnesses thereto admitted to Record Test Catesby Cooke Cl Cur." The given female names of Virlandoe and Vellender are so unusual and so similar sounding that Vellender Greenin of Prince William D.B. B/64 was probably the same person as Virlandoe Wright, the daughter of John Wright, of Westmoreland County Court Order 1705-1721/126. The only John Wright, Gentleman, in Prince William County in 1731 was 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County, who had been elected a justice of the county. A power of attorney was typically given to a trusted relative, which suggests that 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County was related to Vellender (Wright) Greenin. As will be set forth below, 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County was born before October 2, 1700, and Virlandoe/Vellender (Wright) Greenin was in 1709 old enough to record a mark and yet young enough not to be married and was married by 1731, indicating that John and Virlandoe/Vellender were of similar ages and, therefore, probably siblings. "Greening - (And Variants) Early Records" by Sadie Greening Sparks stated that: 1) On March 28, 1735, at Orange County, Virginia, D.B. __/__ Owen Grinan of Overwharton Parish sold to Rev. Alexander Scott 481 acres of land; and 2) On November 1, 1742, the Northern Neck Land Grant of William Johnson listed his land as adjacent to that of Owen Grennons on Broad Run of Occoquan. As set forth below, Occoquan was where the land of Charles Wright, possible son of John Wright the Overseer, was located. "Greening - (And Variants) Early Records" by Sadie Greening Sparks also stated that: 1) On February 12, 1743, at Prince William County, Virginia, Vol. C/447 Daniel Chambers was appointed administrator of the estate of Owen Grenan; and 2) On March 22, 1743, at Prince William County, Virginia, W.B. __/__ the inventory of the estate of Owen Grinan was filed. These records indicate that Owen Greenin had died before February 12, 1743, in Prince William County, Virginia. _Colonial Families of the Northern Neck of Virginia_, by Ralph and Catherine Beverly stated that: ". . . . On 5 Dec 1754 Robert Peck and his wife Virlinda of KG Co. and Thomas Stribling and his wife Elizabeth, of WC, sold to Richard Vowles of WC, 107a., beginning at the n. side of a branch of Machotick Damm a little below Jordan's Bridge which land fell upon the decease of John Wright to his dau. Virlinda, now wife of Robert Peck, now sold by Robert Peck and Virlinda his wife and Thomas Stribling and his wife Elizabeth, dau. of sd. Robert and Virlinda Peck. {WC DW, 1753-1756 John Wright was the father of Virlnda, who m. Robert Peck, and had issue Elizabeth Peck who m. Thomas Stribling." _Married Well And Often_ by Robert K. Headley, Jr., listed the marriage of Virlinda Wright, daughter of John Wright, and Robert Peck, son of William Peck, Sr., before December 5, 1754, citing King George County, Virginia, W.B. A/25 and Westmoreland County, Virginia, D.&W.B. 12/188: "Peck, Robert & Wright, Virlinda; bef. 5 Dec 1754; groom was a son of Wm. Peck Sr. (d. KGC 1754); bride was a dau. of Jn. Wright; (KGC WB a:25; WC DW 12:188)" Although the reasonable conclusion to be reached from the records cited by these two source is that Elizabeth (Peck) Stribling was the daughter of Robert Peck and Virlinda (Wright) Peck, _Married Well And Often_ by Robert K. Headley, Jr., also listed the marriage of Thomas Stribling and Elizabeth Peck on March 8, 1752, citing the St. Paul's Parish Register. If Elizabeth Peck was at least 16 years of age at the time of her marriage, then she would have been born before about 1737. But as set forth above, Virlinda (Wright) (Greenin) Peck's first husband Owen Greenin did not die until 1743, so Elizabeth (Peck) Stribling was probably a daughter of Robert Peck by a marriage prior to his marriage to Virlinda (Wright) Greenin. These records indicate that Virlinda (Wright) Greenin and Robert Peck were married sometime after February 12, 1743, and before December 5, 1754. 1. _Possibly William Grinan _ William Grinan was possibly a son of Owen Greenin or Grinan and Virlinda or Virlandoe (Wright) (Greenin) Peck. (John1, Virlinda2) In his WorldConnect Posting dated February 11, 2008, Mike Marshall(?) stated that on March 14, 1758, at Stafford County, Virginia, Ct.O.B. __/337 William Grinan posted a bond to secure delivery of the estate of Owen Grinan to his orphan Daniel Grinan: "pp. 337-338 Know all men by these presents that We William Grinan & Alexander Doniphan are bound unto Thomas Ludwell lee Esqr. first Justice of Peace behalf of himself & rest of Justices . . in sum L250 . . 14th March 1758. The condition . . if William Crinan truly pay unto Daniel Grinan Orphan of Owen Grinan all Estate . . due soon as he shall arrive to lawful age. __ as also keep harmless Justices from all trouble about said Estate . . then above obligation William Grinan At Court held for Stafford County Alexr. Doniphan 14th March 1758 Bond acknowledged ordered to be recorded." This record identifies Daniel Grinan as a son of Owen Grinan and the appointment of William Grinan to hold the estate assets suggests that William was also a son of Owen Grinan. 2. _Daniel Grinan _ Daniel Grinan was a son of Owen Greenin or Grinan and Virlinda or Virlandoe (Wright) (Greenin) Peck. Doniphan 14th March 1758 Bond acknowledged ordered to be recorded." This record identifies Daniel Grinan as a son of Owen Grinan. B&G Goff wrote: > Looking for any information on following family.
