I am trying to prove that Mary Duncan, daughter of Joseph Duncan, who married Capt. James Wright, is the mother of Elizabeth (Betsy) Wright who married Capt. John James. I can prove that James Wright is the father, but I can’ t prove that Mary Duncan is the mother. The problem appears to be a discrepancy of about 1 1/2 years between birth and marriage dates. Mary Duncan married Capt James Wright after Dec. 8, 1763 in Fauquier (according to Gott’s Marriage Bonds, bondsman Joseph Duncan). But according to Baird’s tombstone Inscriptions, daughter Elizabeth (Betsy) Wright James died Feb 28, 1828 (this date also from Kelly Bible), age 65 yrs 9 mos and 28 days. This works out to a birthdate of 4/30 or 5/1/1762 (depending on which calculator you use) or roughly 1 ½ years before the marriage. Did Capt. James Wright have a first wife? Are these dates proven wrong somewhere else? Does anyone have confirmation of Betsy’s mother? Any help at all would be appreciated. Libby
