    3. I believe the records you refer to are the Personal Property Tax lists. Those were different and separate from the Land Tax lists, which would not have listed the other taxable males in the household. The Personal Property Tax lists did not involve land. The lists, which were sent to the Auditor in Richmond, were in rough alphabetical order. Information about the Virginia Personal Property Tax lists can be found at: http://www.lva.virginia.gov/public/guides/rn3_persprop.htm Information about the Virginia Land Tax lists can be found at: http://www.lva.virginia.gov/public/guides/rn1_landtax.pdf Since many people only leased land or rented houses, they would not be listed as the owner on the tax list.
