I read the Fauquier Co Va, tax records for the latter part of the 1700's. I bless the fellow who did the tax records. He named the Father, then in another column he named the sons that the father was paying taxes for. I assume that the assessor most likely assessed the neighborhood at the same time as this would save time so that may be one way to check the neighbors. Jan In a message dated 7/8/2010 3:08:40 P.M. Those were different and separate from the Land Tax lists, which would not have listed the other taxable males in the household. The Personal Property Tax lists did not involve land. The lists, which were sent to the Auditor in Richmond, were in rough alphabetical order. Information about the Virginia Personal Property Tax lists can be found at: http://www.lva.virginia.gov/public/guides/rn3_persprop.htm Information about the Virginia Land Tax lists can be found at: http://www.lva.virginia.gov/public/guides/rn1_landtax.pdf Since many people only leased land or rented houses, they would not be listed as the owner on the tax list.
