    3. Hello There! I'd appreciate it if you could tell me if any branches of the Thornton family moved to Mississippi. As possibly a former slave of the Thornton family, at the close of slavery (1865) there was a Virginia Thornton born in either VA or MS. This Virginia Thornton was my great grandmother and I've not able to find her with her family before she married Jim Smith in 1889 in MS. The only census I have found her in is the 1900 census. She died around 1905. I'm unable to find ANY VITAL RECORDS ON her. Thanks so much!
