    3. Hi, I am a descendent of the Emmons family through James Emmons son, Daniel Emmons of Fauquier, VA. James son, James Strother Emmons married Ann McConchie. The Heflin's, Field, Strother, Morgan, Stanton, Stigler, and Wharton's are also related, as well as others. Amanda, you and I have been in contact before. My cousins S. Renee Schaeffer and Connie Berry have done quite a bit of work on the Emmons and it is on Rootsweb. Daniel had a daughter named Ellen by the slave Nancy or Caroline who were owned by his brother-in-law Thomas Burrage. After Thomas died, Daniel bought Ellen, her mother, and three other slaves. One of the male slaves was an Indian named Washington. He later married Ellen. Daniel married Thomas' widow, Eliza Withers Burrage. Most of the other Burrage's lived in Winston County, MS. While in MS, Daniel sold or gave his slaves to his son-in-law, Henry Crofton. Henry moved to Hempstead County, Arkansas around 1864 and took the slaves with him, including Ellen and Washington. Ellen's mother remained with Daniel until the slaves were freed, then she moved to Kemper County, MS. I haven't made a connection with the Brown's, but I'll let you know if I do. Take care, Denise
