I am descended from the NUGENT/NEWGENT fqmily of Fauquier Co. LIncefield Sharpe's mother was a NEWGENT. The Fauquier Co. March 1778 Court appointed Joseph James Capt; Linsfield Sharpe second Lieutenant & William Smith Ensign 24 March 1778. July Court 1781 appointed Linsfield Sharp and William Bayler Captains. Excerpts from a book FAUQUIER COUNTY IN THE REVOLUTION, published by Warrenton, VA Fauquier County American Bicenennial Commission, 1976: Page 257 - "The company raised by Captain Benjamin Harrison was apparently broken up. An undated roster has been found showing James Key as 1st lieutenant, Linsfield Sharp, 2nd lieutenant and Thomas Conway, ensign. In March, 1778, Sharp was with Captain Joseph James." Page 424 - "On the 1st of August (Apparently 1781) Captain James Winn took another company of Fauquier men to the vicinity of Yorktown. Linsfield Sharpe, recommended for a captaincy on the 23rd of July, was second in command and Thomas Conway was 1st lieutenant. Sharpe soon took over as captain." Page 432 - "The next morning, the 21st of October, they took off for home. "Marching through the autumnal sunshine with their "parcel" of prisoners (about 2,500), their hearts were gay and their steps were light. Two of the companies were almost wholly from Fauquier, those of Captains James Winn and Thomas Helm. The former marched under the orders of newly promoted Captain Linsfield Sharpe." [Could Thomas Helm had been married to Jane 'Jean' Pope about 1759 in Prince William Co. Wondering if this Thomas Helm died 27 Apri 1816 in Elizabethtown, Hardin Co. KY?] Elmer Compton Sarasota, FL elfcompton@yahoo.com
