I am jealous of all those early records that Marianne Dillow has collected for this line. For what it's worth, my Merry ancestors found their way to Barren County in the early 1800s, from Orange County, Virginia, by way of the part of northern Kentucky just across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. It was there in Barren County that they met my McClanahan ancestors, from Augusta County, Virginia's early Scots-Irish settlement near the county seat of Staunton. Kentucky reminded them of the "Barrens" (meadowlands) of Scotland, and of course the county seat of Glasgow was named after the Scottish city. This area is very near Mammoth Cave. These ancestors did not meet up with my Jett ancestors, from Fauquier County, until they all found themselves in Bond County, Illinois in the 1830s. I am fairly certain that the McClanahan homestead land was part of a land grant related to service in the French and Indian War (or possibly the 1774 "Lord Dunmore's War" between the Virginia militia and the Indians). The Merry relocation to northern Kentucky was because of a land grant from the French and Indian War, but I think the move to Barren County by a second generation was simply because there was land available there; it had become the frontier. The Merrys were not Scots-Irish.
I don't know if you and I have ever talked about Jetts in Bond Co., IL. I have Thomas (b. about 1796) who married Elizabeth "Betsy" Rogers - is he one of yours? His parents were William and Sybil, brothers John and William.
