    1. [VAFAUQUI] ADAM HUDSON m. MARGARET FRENCH, son of THOMAS HUDSON and Elizabeth Philbert

    3. Dear List, I've posted in recent years and still trying to solve who my 5xgf Alexander McConchie married. He had wife Ann and both wills in Fauquier Co. Alexander died 1811 and had some association with the line of Joseph Hanson Harrison in CC MD whose sister Elizabeth Harrison married 1st Robert Dade, 2nd Robert Mastin. Elizabeth [Harrison] Dade's daughter Rose Townsend Dade married Capt. Robert Knox whose estate inventory was done by my Alexander McConchie and Lott Hackley in 1785. Alexander McConchie as living at Robert Knox's quarter in Fauquier Co. in 1777. Alexander McConchie was on the estate acccount of Robert Mastin in 1771 in CC MD. Robert Mastin was second husband of Elizabeth [Harrison] Dade. Alexander McConchie was also witness on the Will of Francis Evans in 1771 CC MD whose widow Phoebe [Maddox] Evans remarried Samuel Hudson who was son of below THOMAS ADAMS and ELIZABETH PHILBERT, d/o JOHN PHILBERT. I think my Alexander McConchie might have married ANN HUDSON, daughter of THOMAS HUDSON and she would have been sister to SAMUEL HUDSON who married widow PHOEBE [MADDOX] EVANS which may explain why ALEXANDER McCONCHIE was witness on the will? Since ADAM HUDSON died in Fauquier Co. and married MARGARET FRENCH, I am wondering if there might be some records that would possibly connect my Alexander McConchie and his wife ANN to HUDSON lines in Fauquier Co.? Thanks for any assistance! Amanda =============================================== My 5xgf bought land from GEORGE DENT who had married the widow Elizabeth of JOHN KNOX. Elizabeth was nee Harrison and the daughter of COL. RICHARD HARRISON and 2nd wife the widow ELIZABETH [DENT] PENN. COL. RICHARD HARRISON was BROTHER of JOSEPH HANSON HARRISON witness on WILL of THOMAS HUDSON. On Nov 28, 1794, George Dent of Charles Co., conveyed land to Thomas Dotey, of Fauquier Co., VA. On Nov 30, 1796, George Dent and Elizabeth his wife, and William Dent and Jenet his wife all of Fauquier Co., VA., conveyed 84 acres of land to Alexander McConchie, of Fauquier Co. Consequently sometime before 1794 George Dent settled in Fauquier Co., VA. On Mar 24, 1797, he conveyed "Chosen" and "Huckleberry Plains Enlarged" to John Colby, of Charles Co., MD. No wife waived dower. On Jan 7,1798, he deeded "Warren's Discovery" to Robert Cain of Charles Co. No wife waived dower. A few months later he conveyed "Hatton's Point" to John Maddox, and on Nov 10, 1801, he transferred another port- ion of "Warren's Discovery" to William Thomas of St. Mary's Co. Background on THOMAS HUDSON... Thomas HUDSON was a surety for the estate of Charles MUNTOE in Charles County on 5 April 1738. Administrator of the estate was Benoni HARRISON.[220:2; Libers 16-20, 1737-1744, p 6] In July of 1738 Thomas sold Hudson's Adventure to Thomas WRIGHT. This was before the date he recorded the purchase. It was 50 acres and bounded by the east side of Potomack River near the mouth of a small marsh, thence to the line of Mr Thomas WRIGHT. On 10 September 1741 Thomas HUDSON leased to William MATTHIS part of a tract of 150 acres called Hudson's Rest lying on the east side of the little dam in Charles County. This is a 21 year lease, but the rent is not to become due until two years from today. The witnesses were John UPTON and William WRIGHT. THOMAS HUDSON's will that shows he had daughter ANNE and she was not of age when he died. Notes: HUDSON, Thomas, age 40, 3 June 1745; CHLR 1744-1745 40:346. MARGARET FRENCH and they had a son DENNIS HUDSON m. ELIZABETH DOTY. I wonder if she would make any connection to the THOMAS DOTEY who was in record with GEORGE DENT and ALEXANDER McCONCHIE? Would anyone know about this ADAM HUDSON? I would like to try to see if he made any connnection to Alexander McConchie and wife ANN. Adam HUDSON (Thomas HUDSON2, Henry HUDSON1) was born Mar 1748 in Charles County, Maryland, and died abt 1782 in Fauquier County, Virginia. He married Margaret FRENCH abt 1772. Children of Adam HUDSON and Margaret FRENCH are: 38 i. Dennis HUDSON was born 26 Mar 1773 in Charles County, Maryland, and died 12 OCT 1842 in Culpeper County, Virginia. Baylis HUDSON was born abt 1782. 43 vi. Agnes HUDSON was born abt 1784. She married Samuel BAILEY. He was born abt 1782. Some on line information had ELIZABETH Besty DOTY born 1776, died 1864. She was daughter of THOMAS DOTY and unknown SKILLMAN. They had a possible son AUGUSTUS C. HUDSON born 1810; died 1893; married Georgianna Hare Norman.

    3. A haunting find TRIANGLE, Va.A man helping ready a Triangle home for the rental market found two tombstones in its basement Wednesday. For the last week, Edward Grogg has been doing handy work at the a one-story home on Triangle Street, helping landlord Elliot Diamond get the 60-year-old house ready to be rented again, after two unfavorable tenants abruptly left with little notice two weeks ago. While in the basement, Grogg said he saw slabs of concrete lying on the floor. When I picked them up I could feel the grooves, so I took them and turned them around, leaned them against the wall and then I realized they were real tombstones, said Grogg. I dont believe in ghosts, but I was kinda spooked. According to Grogg, the tombstone discovery is the latest in a series of eerie events in this house, including a light bulb that inexplicably turned on while power was shut off to the house. The headstones of Mary J. Fitton, alive between 1880 and 1935, and David M. Ingram, alive between 1957 and 1980, are now in a police evidence room in Woodbridge. Grogg called authorities on Diamonds advice and reported what hed found. Prince William library historian Don Wilson said a check of local records showed Fitton lived with her husband, Hanson Fitton, on Saint Asaph Street Alexandria before her death on Oct. 6, 1935. Social Security death records showed Ingram lived in Washington in 1971. Wilson said both people could be buried in Alexandria, and that their headstones could have been stolen or replaced. Usually, when we find a tombstone in Prince William County, it has been removed from a grave site and replaced with a new one, after the stone begins to show wear, he said. Investigators do not know how the stones got into the house, but theyre trying to find out. Diamond bought the house as an investment property in 2003, and said his last tenants were a man and a woman who argued frequently. He said the man left without notice, and the woman weeks later surrendered the key to the house, leaving no contact information behind. The headstones werent there when I was in the basement about a year ago, said Diamond. The police are going to have to track down where these guys went and ask them about it if they are going to find out who they belong to. While Diamond said he doesnt know about any paranormal activity in his house, Grogg said the tenants previous to the man and woman who abruptly left moved out because they heard strange voices, doors slamming and footsteps on the wooden floors where no one was walking. Grogg lives next door with his fiance, Sabrina Ham, on the first floor of a house also owned by Diamond and below a woman who helps Diamond manage his properties. For a few dollars off the rent, Grogg agreed to help Diamond clean the vacated house. Three days ago, Grogg was doing electrical work there and had shut off power to the house. While back at his home, he saw a light on in the vacant house, and so did the property manager, who asked him about it. She said Look inside the house, the lights on, said Grogg. He pointed Wednesday to a single round light bulb that hangs in a light fixture above the kitchen, saying it had inexplicably turned itself on. With much of the cleaning nearly finished, Grogg said he will not volunteer to paint the house or do any other side jobs there. He said hell leave them to someone else. Staff writer Uriah A. I and others that I know are still working on the Conway's. We are trying to prove or disprove if these Conway's are kin to the Edwin Conway, Sr line or not. 17 Feb 1709-1710 Edward Fielding and Winnifred his wife Bill in Chancery vs John Conway and Chris Conway, exors of Dennis Conway. Between 1665 and 1669, George, William and Walter Sutton immigrated to Lancaster Co., Va.  A John Sutton resided there in 1666.  He married Elizabeth Ellis. In John Sutton's will dated 23 Feb 1692  he mentions sons Christopher, and John and Michael and a dau Saffronia and his wife Elizabeth. Signed & Sealed: John Sutton : In the presence of David Kerrick 2 nd May 1692 Thomas Marston and John O'Keefe   John Sutton's family was in the Parish Records of Christ Church in Middlesex County. I am wondering if this John Sutton could be the son or some kin  of John Sutton that Edwin Conway, Sr brought to Va in 1652 with his wife Martha Eltonhead since her mother is Ann Sutton of Rushton Spencer in England. 1. [VAFAUQUI] Police warn of census scams

    3. Police warn of census scams Officials point out workers won't ask for personal info By Sally Voth - svoth@nvdaily.com As the 2010 census gets set to begin, state police are advising Virginians to be on the alert for scams. Census questionnaires are due to arrive at residents' homes next week, according to a news release from the Charlotte Regional Census Center. The release says the form will have 10 questions and should be sent back immediately in a postage-paid envelope that will come with it. "If the people of Virginia complete the census form and return it quickly, then we won't have to go out, knock on doors, and collect the information," U.S. Census Bureau regional director William W. Hatcher says in the release. That in turn saves money. Around $85 million is saved for each percent of returned questionnaires, the release says. If a person claiming to be a census worker knocks on your door, ask for identification, and if you're concerned, call the Charlotte center at 704-936-5300, advises a state police news release. It says census workers will never ask to come inside, and may only interview those over 14. Nor will a census worker ask for bank account or credit card information. "[The advice] is really kind of [a] preventative measure," state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said Thursday. "This is just being put out as an advisory just so people have the knowledge. Knowledge is power. We haven't had any reports [of scams]. "If you fill out the form and mail it back in, you won't even come in contact with a census taker. It's only for those people who may not fill it out or may lose it." Neither Shenandoah County Sheriff Timothy C. Carter nor Warren County Sheriff Daniel T. McEathron could recall any scams reported in relation to the 2000 census. "I know that any time there's something out there, somebody's always [trying to] take advantage of the situation," McEathron said. "My only advice to the residents would be if they're unsure, give your local jurisdiction, [law enforcement] agency a call. We don't mind responding to these calls and taking care of any concerns they might have." Geller offered the same suggestion, and urged concerned residents to take note of any suspicious persons' appearance, car and the direction they are headed. According to the regional census center's release, the U.S. Constitution requires a census every 10 years, and the results are used to determine the number of seats in the House of Representatives each state gets, and are a factor in federal funding.

Frederick C. was formed in 1743 from Orange; Fauquier in 1759 from Prince William, etc. Culpeper was formed in 1749 from Orange also. These counties are part of the Chester Gap area on the Blue Ridge where some Elseys lived. Go on Google and fine a Formation of Virginia Counties chart. 3. For anyone who is interested in medieval genealogy in England the Eltonhead surname was first Norreys. Some stayed with the surname which eventually became Norris. Some decided to  take the surname Eltonhead. There is a long history on the family if one wants to study medieval genealogy.  I have some records if anyone is interested. :) Marianne Dillow --- On Fri, 2/26/10, Shirley Starks <sstarks@tampabay.rr.com> wrote: From: Shirley Starks <sstarks@tampabay.rr.com> Subject: [VAFAUQUI] Eltonhead, Google Bks To: "Roots. 1. [VAFAUQUI] Brown Families in Fauquier Around 1800
    2. Ken Gray
    3. Hello list. I am looking for any information about Brown families in Fauquier around 1800. Specifically, the family of Roda Brown. Marriage records indicate that Roda Brown (married Jesse Gray 23 March 1818 in Fauquier County) is the daughter of Thaddeus Brown and Frances Thaddeus. Does anyone know more about any of these folks? Has any connection ever been made between the Browns of early Fauquier and the Brown families in Westmoreland County around 1650--1700? Browns, Grays and Popes all settled along Machodoc Creek in Westmoreland County around 1650. Thanks.
