    2. Amanda, Under Lt. James Conway of Va., who served in the Rev War, I have a notation of : Thomas Conway and wife Elizabeth of Fauquier County , 1733, deeded to William and George Conway , their sons, land devised by Mary Waugh to her daughter Elizabeth Conway. That's all I have on them. I don't know how Lt. James Conway fits into the other Conway's. He does not appear in Edwin Conway, Sr and Martha Eltonhead lines. Marianne Dillow

Has anyone involved with all of these Brown families run across Rhoda (Roda, Rody) Brown born about 1800 (probably Fauquier County) and married Jesse/Jessee Gray in Fauquier County in 1818. The marriage bond for Jessee Gray and Roda Brown lists Frances Thaddeus as Roda's mother. I have seen other listings that indicate Roda's father may have been a Thaddeus Brown. Thanks, Ken Gray

    2. Amanda, The Peter Conway and Mary James line descends from a Thomas Conway that came to Va in 1671. His line consists of several Thomas Conway's and a Dennis Conway that married Anne Fielding., Lazarus Conway, Etc. My 9th great grandparents are Edwin Conway, Sr and Martha Eltonhead. My Conway cousins and I believe these two lines are kin in England before coming to Virginia. We are still working on the kinship in England before they all came to Virginia. I wish I could tell you more but maybe that will help some. Marianne Dillow >============================================== Does anyone know who THOMAS CONWAY was? 3. Fauquier Listers: Time Frame: In 1851 Virginia Marriage Laws ; Was it legal to get the marriage bond in one Virginia county, and actually get married in a different Virginia County? Or did the marriage have to take place in the issuing County? Thank you, Tom

    3. June, This was Theodosia [Stone] Maconchie who was first wife of William McConchie who was on the 1771 estate of Robert Mastin with our descendant Alexander McConchie who WAS NOT the brother of William McConchie. I think we can at least nail down for certain that William McConchie who married Theodosia Stone, 2nd Elizabeth Muncaster had some kind of kinship to our descendant Alexander Mcconchie who ended up in Fauquier Co. by 1775 at Robert Knox's quarter. It has the will of William McConchie. Mary was his wife but no maiden name. The John McConchie was his brother. The other ones named were his seven children. This was really good in that three people witnessed his will one of which was Alexander J. McConchie and it gives his full name in one line as Alexander Jones McConchie. Thought that was interesting because Alexander has the same middle name (Jones) as Fanny Jones McConchie who was daughter of William and Alexander clearly was not a child by William. He might be a son by John the brother? Also, we know that on the 1810 census, Alexander J. McConchie was living beside Mary so that adds up. Evidently William got into financial difficulty and had to borrow $1,800 from the Farmers Bank of Maryland and that's when John B. Wills, Jr. and Samuel Chapman got a deed of Trust from him in order to loan money which William defaulted on. This is where it gets very tedious but I've been transcribing it page by page saved to Rich Text format. I'm been sending to Mary Jo because she has an interest as well. Another thing that I think might be a big lead in all this was that it states in the court records that John McConchie deeded Pointon Manor to his brother William on March 23, 1801. I will try to get that record from Archives but I'm wondering how John ended up getting Pointon Manor? (We're thinking that this William was William, Jr. son of William and Theodosia and that John was his brother.) ....... Amanda CHANCERY COURT (Chancery Papers) 1810/12/22 5520: John B. The recent flurry of postings stirred up a long dormant research line for me. 2. Amanda E. Douglass
    3. Hi Sandra, Glad you asked! I was going to get to this. I am trying to get to bottom of who the parents were of ROBERT DADE who marrried ELIZABETH HARRISON with daughter ROSE. This is going around my elbow but ALEXANDER McCONCHIE's grandson, ROBERT KING McCONCHIE married ELIZABETH STIGLER who was the 3x great granddaughter of GEORGE MOTT. GEORGE MOTT had daughters Margaret Mott m. ALEXANDER DONIPHAN. Eleanor Mott m. RICHARD SHIPPEY, daughter Jael Shippey m. 1st William Underwood, 2nd Samuel Reeds and their daughter Mildred married 1st UNKNOWN BROWN, 2nd JAMES STIGLER whose daughhter Elizabeth Stigler m. ROBERT KING McCONCHIE. Mildred's sister JAEL REEDS m. LOTT HACKLEY. ALEXANDER McCONCHIE and LOTT HACKLEY did the 1785 estate inventory of CAPT. ROBERT KNOX. ROSE TOWNSEND DADE was d/o ELIZABETH HARRISON who married 1st ROBERT DADE, 2nd ROBERT MASTIN. ALEXANDER DONIPHAN did the estate inventory of ROBERT SLYE who was married to SUSANNAH GERARD. Susannah Gerard's sister Elizabeth Gerard married Nehemiah Blackistone and their daughter, Rebecca Blackistone, married Gerard Newton, son of JOHN NEWTON who had married ROSE the a widow of THOMAS GERARD. This ALL needs to be checked out with actual records as I'm no expert but there is a definite connection of all this to line of GEORGE MOTT and then around to ALEXANDER McCONCHIE. Maryland seems to be a common factor for these lines. I welcome all feedback and comments and I'm not stating any of this as fact as it needs more research and ultimately to be proven. It just seems to be holding up really well when looking at the records. Thanks, Amanda ================================================================ Rose Newton's will dated Dec. 1, 1712; probated Feb. 3, 1713 by Thomas Newton.) 3. Pentagon officials say it's uncertain whether the right people are buried in a number of graves at Arlington National Cemetery because of poor management and record keeping. Two defense officials say Army Secretary John McHugh will discuss problems with burials Thursday, when he releases the results of an investigation at Arlington. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the findings. The famous military cemetery is the resting place of some 300,000, including many of America's war veterans, presidents and dignitaries. The officials say two top managers at the cemetery could face punishment. John C. Metzler Jr., the cemetery superintendent for the past 19 years, recently announced his retirement. http://www.tv3winchester.com/home/headlines/96066659.html

    3. Renee, June and Denise, We're working on all those connections pertaining to EMMONS and McCONCHIE. Here is contribution from Shirley Middleton Moller and Linda Reno that really opened some doors for me when I first started researching the line of Alexander McConchie who had wife Ann and ends up in Fauquier Co. I want to show a KEY piece here. Alexander McConchie and Lott Hackley did the 1785 estate of inventory of Robert Knox. Robert Knox's widow Rose had UNCLE Col. Richard Harrison who married 1st Dorothy Hanson and 2nd widow Elizabeth [Dent] Penn of William Penn. It was the daughter Elizabeth Harrison of Col. Richard Harrison and wife Elizabeth who married 1st JOHN KNOX, 2nd GEORGE DENT [widower of Rose], 3rd ENOCH BROWN. Here is an old post from CC MD list. I'm adding my comments in BOLD. All property from the estate of his late sister, Grace Harrison, he left to his nephew William Dent Harrison, and nieces Anne Warren Harrison and Rebecca Harrison. He devised "Blue Plains" which he purchased from John Maddox []to his nephew Robert Hanson Harrison, and the plantation where Samuel Ratcliffe lived to his niece Mrs. Anne Harrison. The inventory of personal estate of George Dent in Charles Co., was filed at court on Aug 10, 1802, by his administrator William Dent, and displayed a value of $4648.50. The distribution of his estate in Charles Co., was made on May 31, 1803, and divided among the following representatives: William Dent, Anne Thomas, Elizabeth Knox, John Shumate, and Janet his wife, Rebecca Dent and Grace Dent. On Aug 12, 1816, William Dent, Janet Dent, Rebecca Dent, and Samuel Hanson and Anne his wife, [I think this was Anne who was married in above records to a Thomas]all of Charles Co., and described as heirs of George Dent, deceased, deeded "Brawner's Chance" to Catherine Norris, Henry Speake, and Leo Speake, all of Charles Co. ----- Original Message ----- From: cpzb4@aol.com To: mdcharle@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, June 14, 2007 9:48 PM Subject: Re: [MDCHARLE] George and William Dent Source: John K. 3. Marker, slave cabin to be dedicated By Bennie Scarton Jr. Published: June 9, 2010 0 Comments | Post a Comment MANASSAS, Va.The official dedication of a city marker for a historic slave cabin will take place on Saturday on the grounds of Grace United Methodist Church. The event, open to the public, will take place at 2 p.m. at 9750 Wellington Road, Manassas. The program will begin with the Presentation of Colors by Boy Scout Troop 670. Opening comments and invocation at the marker on Hendley Road will be by church pastor Rudy Tucker. Welcome will be by Roxanna Adams, curator of the Manassas Museum and Manassas Mayor Harry J. Hal Parrish II. The ceremony at the slave cabin will begin with music by the First African Methodist Episcopal Church Choir. Scripture readings will follow by Joe Johnson, whose family formerly owned Clover Hill Farm; Col. Ulysses X. White, Manassas Historic Resources Board, and Bill Olson, Prince William County Historical Commissioner. Benediction will be by Meredith McNabb, a pastor with the church. A reception will conclude the event in the Grace Fellowship Hall. Securing the marker was the joint effort of the church, City of Manassas and Olson. The marker, which will be unveiled during the ceremony, reads: In 1770, Patrick Hamrick sold this land to Rutt Johnson who used the land for crops and fruit trees and later added livestock. This property became known as Clover Hill Farm prior to 1852. During the Civil War, the Johnson family left the area and when they returned, the found that their home and crops had been burned by retreating Union soldiers. The stone weaving house and the slave quarters survived. They rebuilt the house, replanted the orchards and purchased registered Jersey cows. The dairy eventually produced about 30,000 gallons of milk a year. In the late 20th century the surrounding area became developed. In 1987, the Johnsons who owned and operated the last farm in the city, donated eight acres of land to the church, including the family cemetery and slave quarters that are preserved in their original sites. They sold the remaining land to a developer. A plaque has been placed on the historic cabin/slave quarters, noting that the building was erected in the early 19th century as housing for slaves by the Johnson family. Some of those who lived in the building worked primarily in the main farmhouse and kitchen that were nearby. Following the Civil War, the cabin continued to be inhabited and used for various purposes. It may be the oldest building still standing in the city. The church history and records committee includes Betty Knowles and Mary Jane Parrish, chairwomen, and members Hazel Boyer, Elaine Byrd, Martha Ann France, Doris Johnson, Mary Anna Johnson, Nancy Miller, Al Newman, Libby Pittard, Jen Woolard, Olson and the Reverends Tucker and McNabb. 3. Renee, June and Denise, I ordered copies of Fauquier Land records back in June 2008 concerning: Deed Book 12, pages 95-96: George Dent/ Thomas Dotey Deed Book 14, pages 26-33: George Dent and Elizabeth Dent, William and Janet Dent/ Alexander McConchie Deed Book 14, pages 39-43: William Dent and Janet Dent/ James Emmons Deed Book 14, pagse 43-49: George Dent and Elizabeth Dent/ William Dent and Janet Dent/ James Emmons Deed Book 15, pages 517-519: William and Jannet Dent/ George Kemper Deed Book 16, pages 693-696: William and Jannet Dent/ George Kemper At the time, I didn't quite understand the relationships regarding George Dent and wife Elizabeth as this same George Dent had been married previously to the widow Rose Townsend [Dade] Knox of Robert Knox whose 1785 estate inventory was done by Alexander McConchie and Lott Hackley. But I do understand the relationships concerning George Dent and 1st wife Rose, 2nd wife Elizabeth nee Harrison who married JOHN KNOX, 2nd GEORGE DENT and 3rd ENOCH BROWN. I believe JAMES EMMONS in these records was the one who was married at one time to CATY STIGLER who was SISTER of JAMES STIGLER SR. m. MILDRED [REEDS] BROWN in 1779. I would like to show with records that the ELIZABETH HARRISON who married JOHN KNOX was the daughter of COL. RICHARD HARRISON and his second wife widow ELIZABETH [DENT] PENN of WILLIAM PENN. Their daughter Elizabeth Harrison married JOHN KNOX, 2nd GEORGE DENT after his wife ROSE had died, 3rd ENOCH BROWN. 1. Notes: Capt. Robert Knox of MD, 21 Sep 1781; 30 Oct 1782. Son: John, "Summer Dusk" in VA, 5000 ac. and all negroes, horses, cattle, and everything on that plantation except as otherwise devised and all the estate I have in Scotland. Son: Robert Dade Knox, all my lands in MD and all negroes and stock on that land except as otherwise devised. Daughter: Elizabeth Knox, "Beulah" in VA, 500 ac.; negroes Short Luie and her 3 children, Jean, Nan, and Rose; 2 horses; 4 cows and calves from "Summer Dusk" plantation. Daughter: Janet Knox, land out of "Summer Dusk"; negroes Moll and her 3 children, Jean, Jesse, and Armistead; 2 horses and 4 cows and calves to be taken from "Summer Dusk". Wife: Rose, whatever is customarily given to widows in the part of the world where my estate lies. The copartnership of Knox & Baillie to be settled. My Execs. to get my share of the effects of my brother John from my brother William as I have never received anything and there should be a considerable balance. My children to be well educated. Wit: Gustavus Richard Brown, Verlinda Mastin, Andrew Baillie, William Miller. Codicil, 15 Feb 1782: Wife is now with child and no provision made in will. I give to sd. child 800 lbs. sterling out of the estates devised to my other children to be paid when it is of age or marries. I appoint Mr. William Allason of Fauquier Co., VA as one of the Execs. of this codicil and to my will. 3 Dec 1782: Rose Townshend Knox, widow declined the bequests in this will and elected her third. Rose Townsend Dade married Robert Knox 26 Oct. 1769. By time of her Uncle's will in 1784, she was still called Rose Townsend Knox and had not yet married George Dent. Rose remarried George Dent bef 1790 in CC MD. The first stated land records and the relationships between GEORGE DENT and wife 2nd wife ELIZABETH are sorted out with the help of Linda Reno and Shirley Middleton Moller from the Charles County genweb list few years back. I will send in second post to this list. I have theory about who the wife "ANN" was of Alexander McConchie and I think she was ANN HUDSON, d/o THOMAS HUDSON and ELIZABETH PHILBERT of CC MD. But before I proceed with more records and connections, I need to establish that ROSE TOWNSEND DADE married 1st ROBERT KNOX and 2nd married GEORGE DENT. That his same GEORGE DENT remarried to ELIZABETH KNOX who was Elizabeth Harrison m. JOHN KNOX and that this Elizabeth Harrison was the daughter of Col. Richard Harrison who was ALSO a brother of JOSEPH HANSON HARRISON. Thanks, Amanda
