Ruth, I have the 1876 Gardner Map that gives a lot of the land owners. I do have deeds, too. I will look and see if I see any Hooe, Newton or Grigsby names.. It will take a while, it is a large map and has a lot of names! :-) Sue On 7/8/2010 3:05 PM, Ruth Patrignani wrote: > Are there any maps available showing ownership of land from 1700 - 1800 in Fauquier, King George, Stafford counties? Where would I find the rent rolls and tenants? --- On Thu, 7/8/10, FamilyHistoryBK@aol.com <FamilyHistoryBK@aol.com> wrote: From: FamilyHistoryBK@aol.com <FamilyHistoryBK@aol.com> Subject: Re: [VAFAUQUI] land records, maps To: vafauqui@rootsweb.com Date: Thursday, July 8, 2010, 6:26 PM There is the Josiah Dickinson map of the Leeds Manor leases. Last fall I recall some discussion here about a book being published, showing the location of these leases in greater detail. Does anyone know how that project is coming along? In Fauquier County, much of the land was owned by Lord Fairfax. It's not the ownership you want, it's the rent rolls and tenants. >>Are there any maps available showing ownership of land from 1700 - 1800 in Fauquier, King George, Stafford counties? Footnote .com is allowing free access for a week to its Revolutionary War records. I found James Jett, private in the 11th Virginia Regiment, Capt. Gabriel Long’s company, serving from his enlistment on August 24, 1776, until his death on March 25, 1777. The 11th Virginia Regiment was organized on February 3, 1777 to consist of 4 companies from Loudoun, Frederick, Prince William and Amelia Counties, Daniel Morgan's Independent Rifle Company; and 5 companies comprising of the Virginia portion of the Maryland and Virginia Rifle Regiments. Could this be the James Jett from Fauquier County? I don’t recall seeing any other references to this Revolutionary War soldier. James Jett’s captain Gabriel Long also served with the Maryland and Virginia Rifle Regiment, which was formed in 1776 and merged into the 11th in 1777.

List, I've made contact with a nice lady out in CA who is descended from Lavinia Duncan who was daughter of Robert Duncan and Ann Gallop. I think she may have some information that will help those us researching the lines mentioned in below Will of Robert Duncan. She said there was a WILLIAM JONES around her lines. She is checking. That would be of great interest...GRIN...another WILLIAM JONES to chase down. But her lines were around early LOTT HACKLEY and HENRY ALLEN who was married to CATHERINE McCONCHIE, d/o ALEXANDER McCONCHIE. CATHERINE [McCONCHIE] ALLEN was AUNT of ANN CHILDS that married CHARLES JONES who the mystery. So I'm sending what she has written for us to ponder. Amanda ============================================================================= Good morning Amanda - it's so nice to hear from you. Yes, Lavina is my 5th ggrandmother. Japasaw married (1) Paupauwiske and (2) Pumunkey woman - (mother of Wahanganoche). Their son was Chief Wahanganoche, he married ? Their daughter Keziah Arroyah married (Richard) Bryant. Keziah and Richards' son (Silent) Bryant married Lucy Doniphan (daughter of Alexander Doniphan, Sr). Their son Robert Gallop married Elinor Bryant. Their daughter Ann, married Robert Duncan. They in turn had Lavina, who married John Lightfoot. Lavina and John's son Philip, married Susannah Smith. Philip and Susannah's duaghter Nancy Lightfoot, married William Jones. Nancy and William's son John, married Mary Ann Zeek. Mary and John's daughter Jociephine married Charles Tutorow. Charles and Jociephine's son Virgil, married Violet Chadwick. Their daughter, is my mother. Her name is Mary Tutorow - Fontenot. It is my understanding that Japasaw is said to be the brother of Wahunsenacawh - Pocahontas' father, which would make Japasaw's father the Great Powhatan/Nemattanon/Don Luis de Velasco. Nemattanon was captured as a boy by the Spaniards, returning to his tribe as a man. I look forward to hearing back from you. Peg ========================================================== I think I read that this JOHN LIGHTFOOT was descended froma GOODRICK LIGHTFOOT married MARY CHEW. He was son of PHILIP LIGHTFOOT and ALICE CORBIN. I need to confirm this. But if her LIGHTFOOT line makes connections to below, then this is going to be very helpful. JAEL JOHNSON was JAEL nee HARRISON who was only daughter by Elizabeth [Pigg] Mott m. JAMES HARRISON. ELIZABETH PIGG was married first to GEORGE MOTT whose daughter ELLEN MOTT m. RICHARD SHIPPEY. So JAEL HARRISON m. 1st WILLIAM WILLIAMS, 2nd RICHARD JOHNSON. Below JAEL JOHNSON would have been HALF BLOOD sister to my ELLEN MOTT m. RICHARD SHIPPEY. I need Charlene to check me on this. Contributed by: James Hughes URL: http://www5.familytreemaker.com/cgi-bin/texis/find/search30/?query=spotsylvania+county+records+john+grayson&db=online&areas=10&head=online&booknum=&category=&words=spotsylvania+county+records&first=john&last=grayson&cmd=context&id=37c1ee866#hit1 URL title: Family Tree Maker Online: GenealogyLibrary.com: Spotsylvania County Records , Page 55 Note: 1000 Jael Johnson, admr. of Richard Johnson, decd., with John Grayson and G. Lightfoot, sec. Nov. 1726. I think Goodrick Lightfoot married Mary Chew and she might have been daughter of Larken Chew and Hannah Smith Roy? Spotsylvania County Records , Page 125 April 3, 1733. Thomas Chew (the elder son and heir of Larkin Chew, Gent., Decd.) of Spts. Co. to Rice Curtis (the assignee of Wm. Hansford, Gent., the assignee of Samuel Short) of the same county. 20 ster., 611 a. in St. Geo. Par., Spts. Co.--part of pat. granted Larkin Chew June 4, 1722. Anthony Thornton, G. Lightfoot, John Minor. April 3, 1733. ======================================================================== So she is direct descendant of LAVINIA DUNCAN whose sister MARY DUNCAN m. 1st JOSEPH HACKLEY, 2nd THOMAS GRINNAN. We know that LOTT HACKLEY was BROTHER of JOSEPH HACKLEY. JOSEPH HACKLEY was witness on Will of SAMUEL REEDS that had daughter JAEL REEDS m. LOTT HACKLEY and daughter MIDLRED REEDS m. 1st ? BROWN, 2nd JAMES STIGLER. So if there was a JONES line around LAVINIA DUNCAN and hubby LIGHTFOOT, that might be a clue for the line of CHARLES JONES? Just a thought... Peggy also had this to say about JOHN DUNCAN who was brother of her LAVINIA DUNCAN m. JOHN LIIGHTFOOT ============================================================= I'm thrilled that you are bombarding me with info to decipher! I just hope that I can be as helpful to you. Some researchers show the following for John - John DUNCAN was born ABT 1727, and died AFT 07 JUN 1788. He married Elizabeth HOLTZCLAW. He married Wilkie MCCLANAHAN 1760. She died 1793. I don't know if this is true.. [Confirmation of this could be key piece in possibly me eventually proving that Alexander McConchie married an Ann Hudson.] And for James Jett some researchers are showing James father as Peter JETT b: 1710 and his mother as Ann LNU - and I don't know if this is true.
