    1. Re: [VAFAUQUI] James Jett ca 1735 and Elizabeth ?
    2. I found this but I can't vouch for it... Marianne Dillow ************************************************************************************************************************************************** JAMES Jett was the father of William Jett, 1763-1851, Virginia militia during the Revolutionary War, whose sons emigrated to Illinois. Our JAMES Jett was the son of the Peter Jett who died in King George County, Virginia, in 1758. Court records show that this Peter’s estate was divided among his widow, who received her one-third allowance; and five children, who received equal shares of the remaining two thirds. Two of the children were still minors, so Ann Jett (probably the widow) was appointed guardian, with Thomas Jett as bondsman. (Was this the notable Col. Thomas Jett?) The adult children were JAMES, the oldest; William, and Mary. Page 18 of “Jett Trails Revisited” (JTR) shows that the Peter Jett who died in King George County in 1758 was married to Rebecca Bowen. I doubt it. It also shows that his son James Jett was born in 1743; this is incorrect, because we know that James was an adult by 1758. It confuses this James Jett with the James Jett who died in Culpeper County, Virginia, in about 1805. The Culpeper James Jett was the son of John Jett, one of the King George County/ Stafford County “Muddy Creek” Jetts (more on that, in a later post) who then moved to Culpeper County in the 1740s. JAMES Jett of Fauquier County leased land from Lord Fairfax in 1763, by which time he was married and had a son (William). This would be consistent with him having reached the age of 26 – in other words, a birthdate in about 1737. There is another James Jett lurking in early Virginia: JTR shows a James Jett, also born in King George County, died in 1795, as the son of John Jett and Ann Wells. He is supposed to have fathered (in 1792, only three years before his death) a son, Francis Jett, who died in Bond County in 1859. (Page 45, JTR.) There is no indication of the source for this record, and it doesn’t make much sense. What is the lineage of Peter Jett, father of my JAMES Jett? JTR (Page 18) shows Peter is the son of John Jett and Gladis Spillman – this John Jett being the son of William Jett and grandson of the immigrant Peter Jett. Again, I doubt it. JTR shows that this Gladis Spillman Jett died in 1778, but the records show her estate probated in King George County by 1771, a more realistic date for someone married in about 1715 with children born in the 1720s. (JTR shows that Peter, born in 1710, was the oldest child of John and Gladis, married about 1715. Interesting.) Instead, I would suggest that this PETER Jett was the son of Francis Jett, brother of the John Jett who married Gladis. When Francis (son of William, grandson of Peter) died in about 1722, his (probably second) wife Elizabeth was appointed to administer his estate. However, by a 1724 chancery order, “Suspend is given to William Jett against Elizabeth Jett for himself, his brother PETER Jett, brother Francis Jett, sister Elizabeth Jett, sister Margaret Jett and his sister Ann Jett.” This PETER Jett is not listed in JTR (page 18), but he fits in there quite nicely, and the Peter Jett shown to be the son of John and Gladis doesn’t fit very well at all. The 1724 court order shows that William was the oldest son of Francis, which makes sense because Francis’s father was a William. It also makes sense that William’s son Thomas would be security for the guardianship of his uncle PETER’s minor children, who would be his cousins. Another reason it doesn’t make sense for this PETER to be the son of John and Gladis, is that Gladis did not die until 1771, when she left bequests to her sons John and Peter, and her grandson Peter, son of her son John. By 1771, the Peter who left five children had been dead for 13 years. The Peter Jett who married Rebecca Bowen was another of the “Muddy Creek” Jetts. He leased land in King George County in 1737 for his life and the life of his wife Rebecca and his son Francis. This Peter died in 1784, survived by sons Francis and William. He may be the Peter who was the son of John and Gladis, since he was still living in 1771 when Gladis died. Also, in 1767 a Peter Jett was appointed guardian for a John Bowen in King George County. This is more consistent with the Peter who died in 1784 being married to Rebecca Bowen, rather than the Peter who died in 1758 being married to her. 1. Re: [VAFAUQUI] CHRISTOPHER QUISENBURY around THO. JETT/ VIVION lines
    2. Hey Amanda, how are you. LOL ?? We travel in the same circles but never connect. My lineage is as follows: i. John Vivion I 1655-1705 in Middlesex Co., Va, m Margaret Smith ii. John Vivion II 1681-17022 Middlesex Co., Va married Elizabeth Thacker, dau of Henry Thacker, Jr.. this line goes back to my Henry Thacker and Eltonhead Conway and Edwin Conway and Martha Eltonhead grandparents. iii. John Vivion III 1714-1791 born in Middlesex Co., Va and died in Fayette Co., Ky m to Jane Smith. Thomas Vivion is a brother. iv. Elizabeth Vivion m Vivion Daniel 1726-1803 born in Middlesex Co., Va but lived in Orange Co., Va before moving to Clark Co., Ky where he died. I just found this record after I posted the first one: 27 September 1775 The indenture between James Quisenberry and Ann his wife of parish of Washington in County Westmoreland and Charles Deane of parish Hanover county of King George was witnessed by Thomas Drake among others. (Deed Abstracts of King George County, Virginia 1773-1783, Ruth and Sam Sparacio, 1994 p. 47-48) Wonder what the kinship is of James and Christopher Quisenberry. ?? Also, good news on the DNA testing on my Moses Cushenbery that died in Bourbon Co., Ky in 1792. DNA results are not completely back yet but results so far shows he could be a Va Quisenberry around the time of Aaron Quisenberry, Sr that died in Caroline Co., Va. but it is still too early to claim kinsmanship as we still have more results to come from the DNA lab. We are comparing our results on Moses with a Quisenberry man that can prove his descent from Aaron. Sr. Just a few more weeks and we will have a answer one way or the other after 29 years of research. Thought I would throw that in. It could fall apart as more results come in but it looks good right now. Thanks for the info. I will look it over and see what clicks. :) Marianne **************************************************************************************************************************************** Aug 16, 2010 10:28:27 PM, vafauqui@rootsweb.com wrote: >Hi Marianne, > >We sure do travel in similar circles. 2. I descend from John Vivion I, II and III and Elizabeth Vivion who married Vivion Daniels. There is a Thomas Vivion who is a brother to John Vivion. 1. Re: [VAFAUQUI] DNA testing
    2. Yes, to do DNA testing there has to be a male descendant to test and it also helps to prove his descent as far as he can go on his family by the paper trail. There are surname groups at DNA companies where one can do DNA testing to see who they match with in that particular surname. In our family we have a male Cushenberry to test and the Quisenberry family has two males who have done their DNA testing so we are waiting for the results on my line to see if it matches with the Quisenberry line or not. I am not going to exhume any dead body to prove a lineage. LOL !! 1. Re: [VAFAUQUI] Remembering Joe
    2. Thanks for sharing. This brought tears to my eyes and wonder at the interstrength of those that fought for what they believed. Thanks again, Chocy

    1. Re: [VAFAUQUI] DNA testing
    2. We got a male to test from my line and one from the Quisenberry's from Va. If they match from the DNA kit and the lab at the company they are kin. If they don't match they are not kin. People are doing it all the time on brick walls. It takes a male to test. :) Marianne Dillow Aug 15, 2010 01:12:31 PM, vafauqui@rootsweb.com wrote: > >>Curiously, how are you testing the yDNA of a person who died in 1792??? > > > Date: Sun, 15 Aug 2010 00:43:37 -0500 >> From: marlowest155@verizon.net >> To: vaorange@rootsweb.com >> CC: vacaroli@rootsweb.com; vafauqui@rootsweb.com; vastaffo@rootsweb.com; vaculpep@rootsweb.com >> Subject: [VAFAUQUI] Ragland, Bush and Quisenberry >> >> We are still waiting on the DNA results on Moses Cushenberry that died >in Bourbon Co., Ky in 1792 to see if he matches with the Aaron Quisenberry, Sr. >family in Va or not whose sons are Rev. 1. [VAFAUQUI] Ragland, Bush and Quisenberry
    2. We are still waiting on the DNA results on Moses Cushenberry that died in Bourbon Co., Ky in 1792 to see if he matches with the Aaron Quisenberry, Sr. family in Va or not whose sons are Rev. James Quisenberry and his brother John A. Quisenberry that was in Clark Co., Ky. While doing some research I found something very interesting. My 8th great grandparents are Evan Ragland Sr that married Susanna Pettus daughter of Stephen Pettus. Evan Ragland was born 1656 in St. Decumens, Somerset Co., England and died 30 May 1717 in New Kent Co., Va. I descend from their son Stephen Ragland who died 1747 in Northampton Co., NC and his daughter Agnes Ragland who first married Ephraim Merritt and after he died she married my grandfather Joseph Langston. This family moved to Logan Co., Ky. This is by other researchers : In Clark Co., Ky,. Nathaniel Thomas Ragland married Sallie Quisenberry daughter of Rev. James Quisenberry and Jane Burris. He was born 16 Mar 1801in Clark Co., Ky. and died 19 Sep 1882 in Clark County, Ky. He had a brother William Harrison Ragland that married Sallie Bush Quisenberry 20 Aug 1832 who is the daughter of Colby Burris Quisenberry and Lucy Bush. These Quisenberry's are not kin to me as I know of yet until the DNA results come back but these Ragland men would be distant cousins of my Ragland line from Evan Ragland, Sr and Susanna Pettus of Virginia.
