    1. [VAFAUQUI] MOSES JOHNSON m. DUANNAH SHUMATE/ Did Moses Johnson have an UNCLE JOHN JOHNSON m. SUSANNAH THOMPSON????
    2. Amanda Douglass
    3. I'm trying to untangle my JOHNSON line and relations. Would appreciate any answers to below questions. Thanks, Amanda ================================================== My 4xgf MOSES JOHNSON m. DUANAH SHUMATE [Have all the proofs] MOSES JOHNSON's will had witness ISHAM O'BANNON. I think ISHAM O'BANNON was married to SUSANNAH WINN. SUSANNAH WINN was d/o of MINOR WINN who had wives Elizabeth Withers and Eleanor Harrison? Fredericksburg Historical Court Record seems to show all this. I believe MINOR WINN had SISTER MARGARET WINN m. "SMITH JOHNSON". Who are his parents for certain? What I want to determine was if SMITH JOHNSON was the first cousin to my MOSES JOHNSON m. DUANNAH SHUMATE? I think JEFFREY JOHNSON and Margaret [who remarried THOMAS COLSTON] were parents of my MOSES JOHNSON m. DUANNAH SHUMATE. I think JEFFREY JOHNSON had BROTHER JOHN JOHNSON m. SUSANNAH THOMPSON and it was their son "SMITH JOHNSON" who married MARGARET WINN? Now the proof will be in the below Will of Jeffrey Johnson m. Elizabeth Wright? He named his son JOHN JOHNSON who I think was father of the SMITH JOHNSON m. MARGARET WINN? I don't think JOHN JOHNSON had a son named William Johnson who could be the "grandson William Johnson". He named a "grandson WILLIAM JOHNSON" and I think he was the BROTHER of my MOSES JOHNSON m. DUANNAH SHUMATE? Note the executor was JEFFREY JOHNSON who I believe was FATHER of my MOSES JOHNSON m. DUANNAH SHUMATE? ====================Did below son JOHN JOHNSON have son "SMITH JOHNSON" m. MARGARET WINN?================== Was below executor JEFFREY JOHNSON the father of MOSES JOHNSON m. DUANNAH SHUMATE? Was below "grandson WILLIAM JOHNSON" a possible brother of MOSES JOHNSON m. DUANNAH SHUMATE? King George County, Virginia Will - Jeffery Johnson, 1725 Will of Jeffery Johnson: In the name of God, Amen. I Jeffery Johnson of the County of King George and the colony of Virginia being weak and knowing that all men is appointed once to die do make, appoint and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. I therefore give and bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God hoping thru the merits of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to obtain pardon and forgiveness of all my sins & offences & my body to the Earth to be buried after a decent and Christain manner according to the discretion of my executors hereafter named & as for my worldly goods which it hath pleased Almightly God to bless me with all I dispose of in manner and form as followeth: Imprimis : I give to my son John Johnson the Plantation whereon he nows Dwells with one hundred acres of land belonging to the same to him and his heirs or heir male forever. Item: I give to my grandson William Johnson the remaining part of the tract of land after his father's decease to him and his heirs or his heir male forever except forty acres at the upper end of the land which I do give to Francis Wright and Ann, his wife, during their natural lives if they remain on same and after their decease to fall to my grandson William Johnson. I do hereby Revoke all Wills, deeds,Testaments, gifts, rights, titles from by or under me made hereto, this being my last Will and Testament and my true intended meaning. Witness my hand and seal this 25th day of June 1725. His Witnesses: Charles Morgan [Who did he marry?] Jeffery ( O ) Johnson Tim Reading [Who was this man?] Mark The will was probated on October 7, 1726 in King George County by his executor Jeffery Johnson. [So he was also son?]

Does anyone know the history of the Mill? Who owned it? Date it was opened & Date when it was closed? etc., etc.,etc.. Thank you == It doesn't take much beating of the bushes, to shake out some new Jett history. Thanks for the question. I didn't find THAT Jett's Mill (you meant County Roads, not State roads) but here is a long history of another Jett's Mill, in its nomination as a registered historical place. You can find the pdf online at _http://www.dhr.virginia.gov/registers/Counties/Rappahannock/078-0089_Calver t_Mill_Washington_Mill_1982_Final_Nomination.pdf_ (http://www.dhr.virginia.gov/registers/Counties/Rappahannock/078-0089_Calvert_Mill_Washington_Mill_198 2_Final_Nomination.pdf) This mill is located near Washington, in new Rappahannock county, just south of Fauquier County. The site was originally in Culpeper county, and the John Jett who owned it during the Civil War era was probably a descendant of earlier Jetts in that county. It was known at various times by other names. But the location of the Jett's Mill you describe is very near the Jett lease in Leeds Manor (later purchased from the Marshall family) where William Jett, 1763-1851, lived all his life. Other surnames mentioned in the document are: Strother, Redd, Rush, Calvert, Garwood, Berkeley, Pendleton, Mason, Cheek, and Burgess.

    2. Amanda E. Douglass
    3. Shirley, I've been working lately trying to figure out the parents of RICHARD SHIPPEY m. ELLEN MOTT. There's another lady who had done quite a bit on the SHIPPEY lines. She collected records and I tried putting them all on a time time to see if any further clues open up. At this point, I am really focused on DODD connection to Richard Shippey and wife Mary. I'll jump in when I can to try to share ideas, etc. More experienced researchers may be able to read a record and make deductions that I'm not able to do at this point. So again, if someone can show me on what record that JOHN PIGG had daughter Elizabeth Pigg and that Elizabeth Pigg was wife of George Mott, please help me get that point. When I had to show a birth date for ELLEN MOTT, I used the Will of Soloman Martin which was written 28 October 1671 and had no probate date. [Rappahannock Co.] This man left his entire estate to George Mott and to his THREE children Elizabeth, Margaret and Anne. Ellen was not named so she evidently wasn't born yet and may have been on the way so to speak. I've used c/ca birth date for Ellen Mott as after "28 October 1671". I am wondering who this Soloman Martin was that he left everything to George Mott and his three children? If I can't nail down wife for George Mott as being a PIGG, maybe George Mott's wife "Elizabeth" was a Martin? Makes me wonder? Amanda

    2. Amanda, I haven't followed all your postings so I don't know if you have this or not. Virginia Historical Genealogies by John Bennett Boddie: Capt. Alexander Doniphan's 2nd wife was Margaret dau of George Mott of Rappahannock Co., Va (Rich. 1. [VAFAUQUI] GEORGE MOTT, wife ELIZABETH, JOHN PIGG, CAPT. WILLIAM CLAIBORNE in record
    2. Amanda E. Douglass
    3. Hey Chocy, Yes, some of this was me digging around to ID the CAPT. WILLIAM CLAIBORNE who was on the land record of JOHN PIGG. At this time, I was using the "online" information listing Elizabeth Pigg as wife George Mott. I was running with that before I actually started doing the research. I'll share what a nice lady provided me who is a member of the Jamestowne Society concerning who the Capt. William Claiborne was who was the neighbor of John Pigg. Omitting her name and email address but this is what she answered to me concerning the CAPT. WILLIAM CLAIBORNE who was named in the land record with JOHN PIGG. I'll try to share and clarify as much as possible. Thanks! Amanda ============================================================== The Claiborne will you quoted as having been proved 1705 is also shown in the book Claiborne of Virginia The First Eight Generations, by F. Dorman, 1995. Will dated 29 Oct 1705 and proved 10 JAN 1705/6 is of William Claiborne III (1671 - 1705), grandson of William Claiborne I, who arrived Jamestown 1621, was Secretary, Treasurer of the Colony of VA. William Claiborne II (ca 1636 - ante 1678) Lived in New Kent County, was Captain and Lieutenant of Colonial Militia, Burgess from New Kent, was also, like his father, an active surveyor , is referred to as Capt.William Claiborne III (above) was also a Captain, is referred to as "Coll Wm Claiborne, sonn to within mentioned Coll. Wm Claiborne, Jr, dec'd " in 1677 by Governor Berkeley. It appears WC II and WM III were both "Capt" and "Coll". WC II, referred to in 1658 as "Capt" W C then patented 1000 acres on both sides of Dragon Creek in K & Q Co and Essex Co., which was known as "Bestland". The wife (widow) of WC II is mentioned in a deed, 1687, for the sale of "Bestland" as "widow of Coln Wm Clayburne, Jr.......New Kent." In 1692, WC III 'acknowledged" a deed to "Bestland" made by his mother ( above widow) and his guardian John Claiborne in 1687 when the plantation was sold to William Covington of Essex Co. Thus "Bestland" belonged to William Claiborne II or to his estate between the years of 1658 and 1687. The land deed you quoted is shown as recorded in 1663. This date is during the life of WC II and before the birth of WC III and during the years that "Bestland" belonged to WC II. The property in the deed is adjacent to the land "Bestland" of Capt Wm Claiborne (which is in K&Q and in Essex counties) and is in Rappahannock Co. I believe the "Capt" William Claiborne, landowner you wish to identify, is William Claiborne II (ca1636 - ante 1678), son of William Claiborne I and father of William Claiborne III, (1671 - 1705) ========================================================== This was really very, very helpful! Those titles of Col. and Capt. for both the Williams had me totally confused. Amanda

The second battle, in July, 1676, was fought in the DRAGON SWAMP, probably where it heads in King and Queen County _______________________________________ *"In the penisula made by these two branches, a great Indian King called Totopotomoi was heretofore slain in battle, fighting for the Christians against the Mahocks and Nahyssons, from whenece it retains his name to this day." Claiborne and some other loyal gents discovered." Virginia Magazine, IV., 136-140. Mass. Hist. Society Coll., Fourth Series,IX, 167."

    2. As to prior postings on my Quisenberry queryI don't have a Jett line. It appears there are many connections to the Drakes too but not my line either. Marianne Dillow

    1. [VAFAUQUI] ELIZABETH / GEORGE MOTT/ Daughter: Ann (MOTT) GLENDENING and father's family
    2. Amanda E. Douglass
    3. Hi Chocy, Thanks for all these good records you're sending. I'm seeing some really good clues for further digging. I wanted to comment on the the ELIZABETH PIGG name. I just completed my Colonial Dames of the XVII papers to prove my line back to GEORGE MOTT. I have been in communication with the head genealogist at Colonial Dames headquarters in DC. He told me that only ONE person had joined under Ellen Mott who was daughter of George Mott and that the research was very poor and needed new research. [He was telling me in a polite way that even though someone got in, the research and documentation was very iffy and I shouldn't rely on it for help to me.] I told him that I hoped the 261 pages of documentation that I would be sending would change all that! WINK. In all this, he sent me the latest application papers for someone who joined under ANN MOTT who was sister of ELLEN MOTT from the 90's. Nobody has proven that GEORGE MOTT's wife was Elizabeth Pigg. I am submitting my papers with her name as only "ELIZABETH" but showing the land record that had JOHN PIGG as possible father in law candidate of GEORGE MOTT. If anyone can provide me with a specific land record, will etc. that references that JOHN PIGG had a daughter "ELIZABETH PIGG" and that it would show with clarity that ELIZABETH PIGG was wife of GEORGE MOTT, I would really appreciate this information. My papers won't get sent in until September so I'm truly open to be fully educated on wife "ELIZABETH" of GEORGE MOTT. Just wanted people to know because if I've overlooked some records, I sure as shoot'en need to know. LOL! Thanks so much! 2. Thanks much for the information. Some locals said it was a "shot tower" but experience tells me diffrent. Someone has partially removed a rock about 4 ft. from the ground on the NE side. There is a partition in the center which is interesting. Thanks again Lee Hash

    3. Well said. I am not a Jett researcher but I could change the name to Edmonds in Fauquier Co and the same would apply.
