    1. THUMB RUN
    2. Checking my Scheels map, Thumb Run is located near Crest Hill Road Route #647 northwest of Warrenton, the county courthouse location. We have a similar plantation story; but have not been able to find any evidence for my RITTER/RUTTER family. I notice in the area of Thumb Run the name of STROTHERS. Another story in our family is that they were connected to the STROTHERS family, but I have not found evidence of that yet. I noticed your HILLS were in Licking County, Ohio. My Stephen Ritter/Rutter sold out is property in the early 1830s and moved to Licking County, Ohio founded the Village of St. Louisville in Newton Twp. about 1837. Chocy

    2. John, The following were landowners in 1815 in Fauquier County, VA. HAYS, Jacob; Crooked Run; 28NW. HAYS, John; Broad Run; 7NW. HILL, Hanah; Thumb Run; 21NW. If you check the Personal Property Tax Lists for Fauquier Co., VA, they would list the number of slaves/blacks each taxpayer owed tax------------you may also pick-up more Hayes or Hills, as people paying personal property tax did not necessarily own land. There was a cotton industry in Fauquier also. Some of the families moved to Reading, Pennsylvania following the cotton mills. A lot of the people in Fauquier moved to Oella and Alberton, Maryland. There were cotton mills in an area near there called Thistletown. Then some moved on to Savage, Maryland. In the 1950's the mills closed down in Savage and the former mills and lot of the area was bought by a Mr. Heim. He called the town Santaheim, because he turned the former mill into a factory to make christmas balls. Due to poor management, I suppose, he went bankrupt and later passed away. His wife Anna Heim salvaged enough from the business to move on the California. There SHE purchased a town and name it after herself Anaheim. As you all know Anaheim is still thriving. > > Some of the surnames of Virginians ending up in Savage area are Sealock, Willis, Riley, Hackley, Merson, Frazier, Blakemore, Reelys and Ridgeways. 3. Hi June and List, My 2nd great grandparents, Moses Hayes and Ann Hill were married in Coshocton Cnty., OH in 1834. They were both supposedly born in Fauquier Cnty., I know nothing of Ann Hill's family, but have been told that Moses Hayes was the son of Thornton Hayes and grandson of Lebon Hayes Thornton was an overseer on a plantation where Moses was born. I have no documentation for this though, but would certainly like to find some. Moses and Ann were born in 1814 and 1813 respectively. Stories of my grandmother indicate that there were slaves on the plantation. I have also been told that Moses had a brother named Thornton, Any help greatly appreciated. Anaheim was incorporated into a city in 1878.
