Jim I do not know. It looks to me that he was there when the will was proved. I understand written, I do not understand proved. What I am trying to establish is for which (or both) dates did Tiller the witness have to be present in Fauquier. I assume the April date for sure as this would be when he signed it as a witness. Does proved mean that a court accepts the will as valid, and if so, are the witnesses required to be present? A James BARTLETT witnessed the 1777 Fauquier Co Will of Sanford CARROLL. I believe he was the same James BARTLETT in the 1810 Fauquier Co census 00201-10201 showing him to be over 45 (or born before 1765. This can NOT be the same James BARTLETT who married Sarah PHILLIPS in 1790 Fauquier Co (that James was born c1771 and moved to Harrison Co right after the 1790 marriage, and was not old enough to witness a will in 1777). Is there any other record which could relate to James BARTLETT the elder? Jim Bartlett; Gaithersburg, MD
