How can we automatically formatted VAFAUQU in the subject line before each subject in the header? Most lists have this which lets us know where the message is coming before we open it. Usually, I can tell when something is Spam; but lately the spammers are picking up on frequently used phrases from my different lists to get me to open their mail. With all the blockers, I guess they are perfecting their techniques! I will keep you in my prayers for your continued recovery and that you will get stronger each day. 1. Back Again!
    2. Jim Burgess
    3. Dear Fauquier County, Virginia Genealogist, Well I went back to the hospital again on October 14, 2003. Same operation as last October November. Will not bother you with the gory details. Getting old is not for sissy's. I am beginning to hate October and November. About 90% normal which is good for me. I sent the hard copy Blackwell Booklet to Libby Baker for review. She received it today. I believe it was about 230 pages. Blackwell, Crump, Keith are the main families included. Libby wrote the Chapter on the Keith family and I wrote the chapter on the Crump and Blackwell families. Libby has done a lot of work editing the Blackwell Chapters. I sure appreciate her contribution. Have some work to do on the Crump family. Would love to find Crump relatives - would like to exchange Crump information. Now working on the Moffett Booklet! 45 pages of Moffett Family Information! Anyone related to the Moffett Family in any way? Please correspond. May do the look up night in January if there is an interest. Need more commitments from others to assist with the look ups. You have two months to think about it. We have had several folks join the mailing list in the last month. As of this moment we have 447 members on the mailing list. Let's have a roll call to see how the new members are related! Thanks Jim Burgess Fauquier County, Virginia

    1. 18th Century Law by John P. Alcock
    2. I found this on a web site and thought I would share it. Many have asked these questions. Women's Rights: In colonial Virginia a woman by marrying became "one body" with her husband (Matthew 19, verses 5-6). Together with "wives be subject to your husbands" (Ephesians 5, verses 22-24), these dictums were the basis of English law and continued as American law well into the 19th century. The result was that the rights of a married women were severely restricted, with certain exceptions, she was not allowed to own land in her own right nor to make a will. Any real property that she brought to a marriage automatically became her husbands, unless she had insisted on a prenuptial agreement signed before the marriage took place... Even after she was widowed and had received a life interest in a specific third of her late husband's land following a division of the estate made by court-appointed commissioners, she had no say as to whom it would pass after she was gone. She could not sue in a court of law other than by the same "next friend" procedure provided for minors and the mentally incompetent. She had no legal say over who would be the guardian of their minor children after her husband had died or what religion the would be raised in, if her husband's will had provisos to those effects. If her husband had been too poor to assure that she and her children were not gong to become a public charge, she had no power to prevent the children from being taken away from her and bound out to a stranger. Only if a woman was an adult and unmarried, either as a widow or never a bride, could she sue in court, act as an executrix or administratrix, be officially designated as the guardian of her children, enter into contracts including indenture of servants, own slaves, sell or buy land, or obtain an ordinary license. If a servant, shoe could take direct court action against her master for ill treatment or his not abiding by the terms of the indenture. Whether or not she was married, she could witness documents and testify freely in court about them. Obviously she couldn't vote, serve on a jury, or hold any public office. Servants: Per 1705 law children imported to the Colony were to be brought to court by their masters within to have their ages judged. If they did not have an indenture and were over 19, they were to serve only 5 years, and if under 19, only until they were 24. If their age had not been officially adjudged, they would serve only five years. Freedom dues given on completion of servitude were fixed at "10 bushels Indian Corn, 30 shillings in money or goods, one well fixed musket or fusee of the value of at least 20 shillings." Women were to receive 15 bushels of corn and 40 shillings.

    1. Wilsons of Illinois and Virginia
    2. Janean Ray
    3. I am looking for the following from Illinois and/or Virginia John M. Wilson b. 1811 near Bull Run Prince Wm. Co Mary E. Wilson sister Parents Jacob Wilson and Margaret King (mother nee Kearney related to Gen. Phil Kearney) Cousin to Jacob was Judge William Wilson b. 1794 in Loudoun Co. and became Illinois Supreme Court Justice Ruth Wilson Dillon that wrote the Chinn Book is the granddaughter of Harriet Lucy Wilson and Charles James Fox Wilson. Charles was the son of Judge William Wilson and Harriet was the daughter of John Stretchley Wilson son of John Wilson and Elizabeth Chinn. MY BRICK WALL In the Wilson Story also by Ruth Dillon about my brick wall John Wilson, it talks about a letter and "your Uncle Jacob Wilson" and also says there was a Jacob Wilson in early Carmi that married a King but no relationship was established as of then. One of Judge Wilson's boys wrote to his mother about "Cousin Lucy Crebs" This Lucy Crebs is the daughter of John Wilson my brick wall. I believe John and Jacob Wilson are brothers and the father would be William Wilson. There is a mention that there might be an Uncle Silas but don't know if that is a Wilson or not. I believe they had a brother William. So Judge William Wilson is their nephew. I think that could be brother William's son. Whoever his father was he died when Jg. William was young leaving mom and another brother. He was b. 1794 in Loudoun Co. It is said the Jacob Wilson's family came from Pennsylvania. Jacob lived in PW Co. and that is where John was born. Then they moved to Jefferson Co. Va. (W.Va) and onward to White Co. IL in 1828 spending the winter with cousin Judge William Wilson. These boys are related, hoping someone knows something. Janean

    3. Jim, do you have anything for the MURRAY family listed in the Will Book below? I've snipped the other data. John WOODCOCK, guardian, was the husband of Frances RUST, widow of a SHEARMAN. I believe it was a 2nd marriage for both. She was the sister of my direct Benedict RUST. Mr. Woodcock and Frances Rust had no children together. He may have had children from a first marriage. I'm collecting information for Murrays, hoping to connect them to a Morrey line who became Murray in Pennsylvania. Thanks.. Wayland Page 126 Only a few of the early leaders of the Dunkers in Virginia were educated men; but many of them were strong in Christian character and well furnished unto good works. One hesitates to mention names, for the reason that others just as worthy may be overlooked; but the writer has heard the following often spoken of as men who loved their fellow men and did much, often through great sacrifice, to serve them: In Augusta County, Daniel Yount and Johna A. Cline; ; in Rockingham, Peter Nead, John Kline, ----------------------------------------------------------Concerning Nead, Kagey, and Kline, a few more words may be allowed.-----------------------------------Elder John Kline (c 1800-June 15, 1864) was perhaps the most active and influential church worker the Valley of Virginia Dunkers have ever had among them. He lived near Broadway, but his labors extended west, north, and northwest, across the mountains and beyond the Potomac and the Ohio. During the thirty years of his ministry he traveled upwards of a hundred thousand miles, mostly on horse back. Owing to the fact that he did not cease his journeys north and west during the Civil War, but continued as usual to go where he heard the call of duty, he was met in the public highway near his home, and shot in cold blood, by men who should have been his neighbors. But he died as he had lived: with his face forward, and with neither fear nor hatred of man n his heart. His memory lives.
