    2. If he was the same person, then he was either father or brother of my ancestor JOHN Y. WHITE of Fauquier Co. Va. 1. Re: William White Sr Will
    2. Virginia L. "Ginny" Keefer
    3. A lady named Diettrick lived in College Park, Maryland and filed D.A.R. for my William White born ca 1730. She filed for his daughter, Hannah White, who married Thomas Russell James in Fauquier Co VA. She was accepted. She listed William White's wife as Mary ____. Mary would have died prior to William. William made out his will in 1797 at Haymarket, Prince William Co VA and listed his children and second wife, Ann. William died in Oct 1804 and his land was then called Fauqueir Co VA. Haymarket was a bustling place when he lived there. It was located where the main road from PA went down to GA. etc south. I have seen the children listed for this William White for several years but he never had a son named William which was odd for those years. Finally a lady sent me a list of loose papers that had been found and are being kept in Woodruff Files in Fauquier Co Court House at Warren, VA. I used the information given and ordered the papers. Lo and Behold, He had a son named William. I always thought my William White was his eldest son. Perhaps because William stopped by Alexandria to see his brother John whom he found too ill to continue and took his place for several weeks. John caught up with his men while they were on a march to Willimasburg and relieved William to continue home. William did sign up again but took leave due to his own illness just before the end of the war. Somehow, I had it in my mind William was checking on a young brother. Anyway, you note in William White Sr's will, he mentions John as inheriting almost everthing like a first born son would in thos years. There was hard feelings for sure between William Sr and William Jr and father said near the bottom of his will that his son William was to be given on shilling current Virginia money and never no more even to his heirs. Yet William was at all the court trials from 1804 to 1825 helping his siblings get the will probated and settled. William remarried after Mary ---died to the widow of James Bailey. Her name was Ann _____. Wish I knew her maiden name. I am not sure which James Bailey she was widow too. Must have been Carr Bailey Sr's son James. William and Ann had no children together. She had 4 children by James Bailey that William White was made guardian of in court. I have had a copy of those papers for years. William, Thomas, Nanny and one other, prob James. There is a court paper that Mrs. White be given a debt owed to William White Sr after his death. There is another one that gives her 1/3 like a child from a parent would get too. Cant recall that father's name but think it was Mathis. Will look it up. I ordered about 75 pages of those court papers about the will. It states in it that John White, son of William White Sr. married Ann Bailey. I got the impression it was his step mother??? We have a cousin [who descends from Carr Bailey White who was born in Stokes Co and died in Lincoln Co TN] that I have sent a copy of all the papers. Paul R. White is a practicing attorney in Nashville and we will wait for him to give his educated opinion of whom John White married. definitely Ann Bailey, but was she the widow of his father????? Wm Sr. said Ann Bailey White would hold the strings for his property until she died or remarried. She fought having the land probated. William White's dau. Sarah, married George Roach and they lived in Prince William Co VA. All the other children listed in the will were living in Mason Co KY at least from 1804 when Wm died to 1816 when they each sent George Roach legally signed papers allowing George Roach to sell their share of their father's land for them. I hve copies of each of those letters. When the land was appraised, William Hunton, a next door neighbor of Wm White Sr and Wm's son in law, George Roach did the appraisal of the property. in Oct 1804. Then after the court ordered Ann to probate the will, George Roach sold the land to the next door neighbor, Wm. Hunton. The court case went on until 1825 which is probably when Ann Bailey White died. George Roach was deceased by them and Ann Bailey White's son, Thomas Bailey, was part of the executors who sold the land. I have copies all almost all of Wm White Sr's children's marriage bonds. William could not write. It seems to me that John White lived in Fauquier Co VA after his father's death. Yet, in 1840 US census showing soldiers still alive and receiving pensions, there is a John White age 78 living in northern Mason Co KY with Caleb White, son? I thought that was John as he lived there while the courts were churning on this will. My William was no doubt living in Stokes Co NC as that is where his children were born. It is same place that was called Rown Co NC before they cut old Rowan down to size. William White was there about 1786. He bought land from Isaac White in 1800 on Reedy Creek up close to top center of NC among the Moravians that William Jr appeared so often as witnesses for and with. There was no relationship mentioned between Isaac and William. I wonder if Isaac was his uncle??? I have a copy of that land sale. I was accepted into D.A.R. on William White Jr. His neighbors in Lincoln CO TN thought highly of him so I was surprised to see that he had such a severe problem with his father. There is a notice in a book about William White sueing Thomas James in Fauquier Co VA and the case being dropped due to death of the plantiff. I thought this to be William White Sr and his son in law.?? I believe it was in 1797 though. Will have to check athat date. William White Sr was very actice in Fauqueir Co. His x was on many documents, road improvements etc. His land adjoined the corners of Parnack George, his old friend and several others. All whose surnames appear in Lancaster Co VA with a William White. I wonder if my William White Sr b ca 1730 had a father named John since he named his first born, John. That was the habit the, First after the pateranl grandfather, second after the maternal grandfather, third after the father and fourth after the father's eldest brother as I recall. Correct me when necessary. I take that well and appreiciate the help.I am pleased with the work you do. Any ideas of how to obtain a copy of a land grant in Lincoln Co TN? When my William White, Rev War soldier, died May 6, 1833 in Iincoln Co TN, the land had to sit until his eldest son , James Franklin White born Aug 10, 1816 Stokes Co NC, obtained legal age to sell the land with the help of his younger brother, Carr Bailey who was 19 when James became 21.. They started selling the land in June 1837 and it was finalized in Dec 1837 Lincoln Co Court. They had a hold up with the court requiring them to have a copy of the land grant. They finally got the grant and sold the land to G.W.Martin. The land was located on Stephen's Creek and is supposed to be listed in Deed Book K-1, page 356 in Lincoln Co TN. I would love a copy of the deed. I am not sure where Stephen's Creek is located in Lincoln Co TN. I am sure my Rev War, soldier, William White and wife Elizabeth would have been buried on this land or at a near church or chapel neara by. I have been told they are buried on a hill.??. Anyone with any clues about where G.W. Martin's land was located to help me pinpoint where they could be buried.? I would like to have a D.A.R. marker on his graves even without him having a stone. I would get some of my cousins to help me purchase him a stone if we could find the place and get premission to do so. Children of William White Sr b ca 1730, died 1804 Haymarket, Prince William Co VA, married Mary ____. were; 1. Elizabeth Ann died after 23 May, 1816 md Feb 28, 1786 to James Bailey in Fauquier Co VA. [brother of Carr Bailey Jr] James died in war time young. 2. Jemima [Mima] [died aft Mar 22, 1816 when her father died] md 1st George Green Waddell in Fauquier Co VA, md 2nd 1847 Stephen Wade in Mason Co KY. She moved away ARK?? seems like. Will have to check my papers. 3. John White [Rev War soldier] b 1753m married Ann White ????? step mother??? 4. William White Jr. b 10 J1n 1755 Fauq Co VA, died May 6, 1833 Lincoln Co TN. Had at least 2 children in my opinion' Thomas J. White who seemed to hav a mental problem and required care and lived in Lincoln Co TN at times, and Edith Chapman White who married in Stokes Co NC to James Tucker and brought her children to Lincoln Co TN to complete their raising. My Rev War soldier, William White's grandson, William Clark White, was murdered Christmas Eve at his farm home door, he was shot to death. Returning discouraged Congf soldiers and skallawags came from twon to Wm's front gate. They were drunken and load. They demanded to know where William has hidden what little stock he had left and Wm refused to tell them. Wm's neighbors testified at the military trail that they had seen about 200 of Wm's Hogs being taken to town by the soldiers, They had seen soldiers riding Wm's horses in town and much more was taken. Wm White had 9 children under 16 andd a new bady due shortly. When Wm. Refused to tell them where what he had saved to feed his own large family, a young soldier on a horse right in front of Wm White shot Wm dead. Many of his neighbors had scurried through the bushes from town to see what the drunken soldiers were up to and several of Wm White's children and his wife were near him when he was murdered. He wife delivered William Clark [Babe] White within hours after seeing her sons murdered while standing next to her. She stated that two of her husband's nephews were among the gang. She said they were The Tucker boys and named them. When she asked one of the Tucker boys the name of the yuong man from Lawrence Co TN was, he heistiated but then told her he was Benjamin Franklin Herron, called William F. Herron in many of the court trials and said to have been only 14 when he was 17 at the time. When the soldiers refised to help Eliza get her husband into the house, she asked one of the Tucker nephews to run save her daughter, Charlotte, that she had sent to the nearest neighbor for hep and Herron rode hard after her. Tucker saved her life. The Tucker boys did nothing except be present. Even tried to help. Their mother was Edith Chapmen White who married James Tucker. Thus Edith had to have been a daughter of Rev War soldier by his 1st wife, Mary. I have looked for Chapman and White marriages in Rowan Co NC and Fauq Co VA to no avail. I think Thomas J. White was a son of that 1st marriage too. Wm White Sr married Elizabeth ___ who was 20 years younger than he in NC. Wm was aged 58 when their first child together was born 1814 NC named Martha md Mar 26, 1840 L:in Co TN to Samuel C. Miles. There were several White young men living in Stokes Co and Lincoln Co that could have been sons of Wm by his unk first marriage but I have found no proof of a connection. 5. Nancy Ann b 1764 Fauq. Co md Oct 31, 1786 William Waddell Sr. 6. Hannah b ca 1765 Fauq. died 1840 Clay Co IN, md Dec 13, 1787 Fauq. Co to Thomas Russell James. 7. Sarah b ca 1768 Fauq. Co married Aug 25, 1789 Fauq. Co to George Roach. Later lived in Pr Wm Co VA. 8. Carr White b ca 1777 Fauq Co d aft May 6, 1816 , married Nancy Donaldson, dau of John from Fauq. Co VA. All of above Children lived in Mason Co KY at least from 1804 to 1816 except; Sarah lived in Pr Wm Co VA and Wm Jr lived in Stokes Co NC still called Rowan Co NC then. I have been unable to locate Sam and Martha in Lincoln Co TN 1880 census. I am packing to move to Las Vegas so I do not have material to check. I received a packet several years ago and it seems to me they moved elsewhere but I am not sure. Will let you know when I get settled in Nov. 1. Rosser and Kemper Linkages in VA and in KY
    2. Dear Researchers, I would be pleased to have you add any information to this brief note-taking concerning Richard Rosser and his probable brother-in-law John Kemper [Sr.] of Garrard Co., KY, previously believed to have been of Fauquier Co. or perhaps Culpeper Co. If Rosser was of Mercer Co., KY, will soneone forward this to that group--rootsweb, that is. Preparer: E. W. Wallace Edited Mar 1999 RICHARD ROSSER. His wife is reported to be Judith Kemper. Judith's relationship to John Kemper [Sr.] of Garrard Co. KY is unknown, but she may be a sister. According to compiled marriage bond records of Fauquier Co., one Richard Rosser was married to Judith Kemper on or about 23 Sept 1779. She was designated as daughter of Peter Kemper. Rosser's Rev War pension number is reported to be S31344, probably filed in either Garrard Co. or adjoining Mercer Co., KY.. According to the Revolutionary War Pensions Lists, Pension Roll of 1835, Vol III, Kentucky [The Learning Co., CD 145], he received a pension payment Sep 1, 1832. He served in the VA State Troops. The first payment was $23.33, and he received a total of $69.99. He was age 78. This would give a birth date of ca 1754, an appropriate birthdate for a person in the Revolution. Whether the first payment was an annual payment or a monthly payment was not stated. At any rate, he seems to have received three payments of $23.33 each. Rosser is believed to have been the brother-in-law of John Kemper, Sr. of Buena Vista area, Garrard Co., KY. Kemper's wife was Sarah Rosser, whom he married 15 Dec 1761, probably in the newly-formed county of Fauquier, VA. (Because of this early marriage date, John Kemper was either considerably older than Rosser, or else we have identified the wrong John Kemper. More research is needed.) Richard Rosser served in Capt. Benjamin Harrison's Co., Virginia Volunteers, Revolutionary War "from Fauq'r, Virginia," according to a jacket at the National Archives, Washington, DC. The card number is 39188159. Another jacket states that Rosser appears on a list of Capt. Benjamin Harrison's Company (Virginia Volunteers), but the list is not dated. There is no other information, as the searcher at that repository commented "Complete file." Copy of National Archives record is in possession of this writer. The following indicates the close relationship of the Kempers [Kampers] and the Rosser family: Fauquier Co., VA DB 8 pp. 84-86. 26 Jul 1783. Reference to essentially the same lines is made in DB-7, p. 322-324 although Williams's and Doggett's land seems to have changed ownership. In 1783, a John Rawser [Rosser], Sr. made a deed of gift to a probable son-in-law and daughter and to a grandson, which deed was witnessed by several other Rosser males, probably his sons. An Earlier Richard Rosser There is reference in Northern Neck land grants dating rom 1705 to at least 1746 to Richard Rosser in several counties. There is also reference to Rosser's Run, Prince William Co., VA. However, the name Richard Rosser has been carried down for generations in the United States, at least since the early 1700s in Richmond Co., VA. Refer to Wills of Farnham Parish of Richmond Co., VA. Northern Neck Land Grant References: Bk 3-128, dated 23 Feb 1705 refers to land adj Richard Rosser, Richmond Co. I do have a dispute with the compiler of the website in this respect: We have no positive proof that Joan's former name was Frith. (Admittedly this has little to do with Fauquier Co. residents--or does it?) There is question whether Joan was Nathaniel Frith's daughter. With luck, we might be able to find some more evidence. Research shows that Joan's daughter apparently was a goddaughter of Nathaniel Frith and not his granddaughter. >From my notes: The will of one Nathaniel Frith was written 3 Jan 1676/77 and proved in [Old] Rappahannock Co. 4 July 1677. John Frith's relationship to Nathaniel Frith is unknown. .......... Much later the will of one Anne Frith was proved in Henrico Co. in 1740. (As abstracted by William Lindsay Hopkins, SOME WILLS FROM THE BURNED COUNTIES [Richmond, 1987], p. 60, quoting from Henrico county wills as abstracted by Benjamin B. 1. DeBord
    2. I believe it was Jim Burgess who asked about DeBord. I do not have a specific answer to his question. However, since there is a rumor among my distant cousins that we are descended from one Roger Williams of early Northern Neck Virginia and from his wife Joan [who had two other husbands besides Roger], I pick up whatever clues I can find. It seems Joan's daughter Ann Williams may have married a James DeBord. Perhaps some of these notes can help you sort out some of these folks. When studying Northern Neck folks, it seems I have study all the parent and progeny counties in order to pick up clues. Here goes: ANNE WILLIAMS (married by 1703) She, Anne, wife of James DeBord, is named in the 1703 will of her mother Joan Frith [surname is in dispute among us cousins]. Anne's father may have been any of the three husbands of Joan (--) Williams, later wife of ......, later wife of ......... Later, the names of Wm. Debord and David Debord are found on lists of Orange Co., VA tithables for the years 1747 and 1748. They are not listed for subsequent years. (Barbara Vines Little, ORANGE COUNTY, VIRGINIA TITHABLES 1734-1782, PART I [Orange, VA: Dominion Market Research Corp., 1988], p. 26) JAMES DEBORD or DEBOARD, probably of Richmond Co., VA ca 1713. He probably was of legal age in 1713, Richmond Co., VA as his name appears as a landholder, but apparently his land is in dispute as is that of some of his neighbors. Richmond County Court 6th of August 1713 - Moore Fantleroy, Gent., one of the Processioners appointed for one of the precincts of Northfarnham Pish refuseing to procession severall parcells of land held by Thomas Beale, Thomas Williams, Joseph Deeke, Gilbert Metcalfe, William Yeats, Roger Thornton and James DeBoard alledging that the same or greatest part thereof belonged to him, Whereupon it was ordered that the Surveyor and a Jury should lay out the same, and the Jury having returned their report, it is at the motion of Moore Fanteleroy ordered to be recorded.. This is about the mother of Ann DeBord. As indicated, Mrs.Joan Loyd was widowed three times. Her last husband was Lewis Loyd. Her first husband was Roger Williams, the father of her son Shaddrack Williams (named in the will), also of Roger Williams II, and possibly the father of Ruth Williams Canterbury. Seemingly, there were other Williams daughters: Betty, as named in their father's will; Rebecca: Susannah, wife of William Phillips); and Anne, wife of James DeBord and later in the mother's will. In her will, written 8 Jan 1703, proved 2 Feb 1703/04, Joan Loyd named two other daughters: Susannah, wife of William Phillips, and Anne, wife of James DeBord. She named several sons-in-law: George Thompson (also her executor), William Phillips and the aforementioned John Canterbury. She named her daughter-in-law Elizabeth Williams, deduced to be wife of said Shaddrack Williams, but possibly a stepdaughter, "Betty Williams,' as named in the will of Roger Williams, Sr. Several grandchildren were named: Elizabeth Thornhill, Susan Phillips, and John McDaniel. (Was Rebecca the wife of John McDaniel?) Refer to Robert K. Headley, Jr. WILLS OF RICHMOND COUNTY, VIRGINIA 1699-1800 [Baltimore: Clearfield Publishing Co., 1998 reprint of 1983 edition], p. 11. I am sure that this Louisa is the who married Lewis Allen "Jay" VANCE. Following are the Census Records for Anderson Ellis & Luke Curry! Can anyone add information? 3. I do not know anything about this family but in reading your below notes: I would venture to say that Nathaniel and Mariah might be siblings and perhaps their father was an earlier Nathaniel. This tells us that either the DAR doesn't always verify all of the info they get, OR there are some typographical errors made by whomever posted it. Who knows which? Perhaps DAR could send you directly the copies of whatever data they have. Your source SWG EST doesn't tell me anything. Let's hope someone jumps in and adds further to your research. This is such a good group of people on this list. 1. KING and Wilson
    2. Janean Ray
    3. Hi all Well, I think I just made a HUGE stride to discovering John Wilson's (Elizabeth Chinn) family. Those of you who know me also know I'm obsessed with this project. I've always believed that John's father was William and his mother was either Lucy or Jane. I've also believed that Judge William Wilson of Illinois was his nephew. Those of you familiar with the Chinn Book and the Wilson Story know that Ruth Wilson Dillon (author of the Chinn Book) knew there was a relationship with John Wilson and Jg. Wilson and also that there was a Jacob Wilson who married a King in White Co. IL but no relationship had yet been established to John Wilson. Well I've believed that Jacob was John's brother and Jg. William's father was their brother also. Well I just found Jg. Wilson's parents. William R. Wilson b. 1765 m. Jane King b. 1768 d/o Phillip King. w/children: William Wilson b. 1794 m. 1820 Mary S. Davidson John Knox Wilson b. 1792-1841 to Martinsburg W.Va. merchant Now Jacob Wilson b. 1774 m. Margaret King (who's mother was a Kearney related to Gen Phillip Kearney. So we should have Phillip King m. Unknown Kearney w/daug's Margaret b. 1771 m. Jacob Wilson Jane b. 1768 m. William Wilson Now, in a letter from Eliz (Chinn) Wilson to her son William, (who I believe was in Illinois at the time) refers to "your Uncle Jacob) and also to "remember me to your Aunt Jane" Well I have never had an Aunt Jane on the Chinn side so it HAD to be on John Wilson's side. Which now makes sense. JANE KING WILSON. This would be Elizabeth Chinn's sister in law. I was told that Jg. William Wilson was born in Loudoun Co. and his father died when he was young leaving a wife and two young boys. Well that would be William and John. So my guess is that Williams mother Jane King Wilson went to Illinois with him. This makes sense because then Aunt Jane would have been 64 when Elizabeth wrote the letter in 1832 and referred to her "old friend Mrs. Channel" I know this all needs confirmed but if we collectively track down William R. Wilson and wife Jane King and look for her father Phillip King with possible wife Kearney I bet we can find the parents or at least the father of the Wilson boys: William b. 1765 John b. 1772 Jacob b. 1774 There could be a brother Silas also and IF Jacob is their brother then their father fought in the Rev'n War and wounded at Paoli and captured. Jacob had a brother Silas that fought at Brandywine. Jacob was at Harper's Ferry in 1798 and served at the White House in the War of 1812 under Col. William Washington. In 1811 Jacob and Margaret were living in Prince Wn Co. Va near Bull Run as that is where son John M. Wilson was born. In 1824 they moved from PWC to Jefferson Co. va. (W.Va.) and in October 1828 they moved to Illinois reaching White Co. in December of the same year, where they passed the winter at the home of a cousin Justice William Wilson who married Mary Davidson. White Co. Probate Journal Vol. B. 1822-1844 page 165 has the following: William K. Wilson - (who is this - William KING Wilson - Jg. Wilson's wife was a Davidson - Jacob's was a King.) Administrator: William H. Davidson 9 Nov. 1836 Settle Distribution: Jacob & Margaret Wilson $50.78; Heirs of Eliza Boyd, Dec'd, John M. Wilson, James L. Wilson, Oliver H.P. Wilson, R. Adaline Wilson, Mary Shelby, Jane Wilson $25.35. The above are Jacob and Margaret's children but who is this Eliza Boyd, dec'd? Jacob's daughter Mary m. William B. Shelby lived in Indiana Collectively we can crack this! Janean
