Tootsie, No, but much is in the information that June posted from VA State Library Chancery Record. I brought up William White and was able to read the entire will fraud case from the death of my William White Jr who died abt 1804 in Haymarket, Prince William Co VA and it was finally ordered to be brought to Fauquier Co by the Judge. It took many years but finally was settled abt 1824. James Bailey, died ca 1777. The widow of James Bailey, [1777]married widower William White Jr b ca 1730 VA- d ca 1804. She was Ann White in Court. I have no idea what her name was when she married James Bailey. Ann means Nancy, maybe Hannah, etc. Or just Anne. There are 90 pages of letters, orders, witnesses, etc. It is interesting. Great of June to help us so much on line. I had never used that Library before. Will now. Ginny. [email protected]
Is this William White connected to James White m. Elizabeth (Gibson, I think) who joined the REV in Fauquier Co.??? I hope, I hope. Thanks for posting these guardian bonds, Here is more on the Ashby bond, in case someone is interested in this line, other than me... ;-) >ROBERT ASHBY, apptd. gdn. to Martin and Thomas Bryan Ashby, orphs. of >Nimrod Ashby, dec'd. 28 June 1764. (Minute Book 1763-1764, p. 312) There were several Nimrod Ashbys but, this particular one is: Nimrod, possibly, the eldest son of Robert Ashby and (whom I believe to be... (Mary?) Elizabeth Farrow/Farrar, dau. of Nimrod Farrow/Farrar) no documentation but, the Farrar Island group has a Mary who married an Ashby. Nimrod born, abt. 1734 Nimrod marr. Frances Wright on 30 Nov. 1756 or 1759. Frances may have been a Bryant, since two of her sons (one by each husband) carried the name Bryant Frances married John O'Bannon/O'Bannion after Nimrod's death. They had: Bryant and Benjamin. There are several records in Fauquier of this couple one of which you posted. >WILLIAM O'BANNON, gdn. of Bryant & Benjamin O'bannon, orphs. of > >John Obannon. 30 March 1774. For: £500. Sec: Martin Pickett. J.P.: Joseph > >Blackwell. Armistead Churchill, James Scott, John Chilton, Gent The date of his death (above) is actually the date of the bond for administration of his estate. Nimrod was killed by Indians, near Jersey Mtn, VA According to the info below, he was captured by Indians on the 4th of June 1764. They were on their way back to, Forman's Fort, (on the S. branch of the Potomac)) and one of the men with him was a Wm or Thos. Forman. This below is from material found in GA and from a lady (Ruth Trim) who was/is proving her relationship to the Thomas Forman, mentioned in the text. 1) Among the charges against Col. Adam Stephen by Thomas Rutherford, Hampshire County Representative in the House of Burgesses, is one stating that "two men were killed by the Indians in the neighborhood of Formans Fort" while Col. Stephen had the Hampshire militia guarding supply wagons in Maryland. This was strictly against orders that required the militia stay within the boundaries of the colony, in this case Virginia. Reading from the Journals of the House of Burgesses one can reconstruct that the militia and Col. Stephen were at Fort Cumberland MD on June 4th, as requested by Col. Bouquet. 2) Kercheval in his 1833 History of the Valley of Virginia states that in the spring of 1764 Nimrod Ashby and WILLIAM Forman were killed on Jersey Mountain while watching a deer lick. There was no William Forman of the correct age to have this occur. Of course these were oral accounts given by old men decades after the event. We believe that the man with Nimrod was our ancestor, THOMAS Forman. Thomas Forman had an older brother named William who was ambushed by the Indians, but this happened many years later, in 1777 and near Wheeling WV. 3) Fauquier County published abstracts show that the Bond for administration of the estate of Nimrod Ashby was filed there June 28th, 1764, which would be the next June court date. The previous court was held about May 26, 1764 and Nimrod Ashby was sworn in as a new Justice. At any rate Nimrod's date of death traditionally appears as before June 29th 1764. No one seems to know exactly when he died, but court records show that Nimrod was alive in late May and dead by late June of 1764. 4) House of Burgesses records show the petition of Robert Ashby in behalf of Nimrod's wife and children in which he states that in 1763 Nimrod was stationed on the frontier with the command of a detachment of militia. He also says in April of 1764 that Nimrod was given pay for his troops, but encountered Indians on the way back to the fort (unnamed) where his troops were stationed and was killed. No mention of anyone being with him, the date of his death, or the name of the fort. We would love to locate some sort of militia list that would show just who his troops were. (My note here: The government tried to collect from the widow, the monies that Nimrod and companions were carrying. They had the payroll for the militia and it was taken when they were killed) Makes me wonder if it was really Indians or someone who knew they had the payroll and just wanted it. > 5) In the spring of 1765 payment for those deposing at the trial of > Col. Stephens was authorized and recorded in the Journals of the HOB. > Those deposing from Hampshire County were the new husband of the widow > Forman, three of her uncles and a neighbor of the Formans. > > 6) Several months ago Bill Rice of Elkins WV, the researcher who in > 1999 located our Thomas Forman estate papers that had been hidden for > 70 years in the basement of the Hampshire County Courthouse, wrote me > that he had run across an item that was abstracted from the Georgia > Gazette. The date of the issue was 19 July 1764, quoting from a > "Letter dated 5 1764 from Fort Cumberland: Colonel Stephens reports > that on the 4th (of June) that Capt. Nimrod Ashby and a man in the > Virginia Volunteers were captured (by Indians) on the South Branch of > the Potomac." > > So here we have the exact date and general location, as Formans Fort > was on the South Branch. We truly believe that Thomas Forman was the > Virginia Volunteer with Nimrod Ashby. We would be most happy to see a > list of those militia men under Capt. Ashby and the name of the fort > at which his men were quartered, if you ever run across it. > > Enough of Nimrod. I feel quite sure that Barbara's Linn or Lynn was > the Indians scout William Linn who was with the group of Hampshire > militia under Capt William Fornan at the Narrows near Wheeling in > 1777. I will try to send her some material in the next few days. If this is in anyway, familiar to any of you or of interest and you can add to this, please do so. My husband is not descended from Nimrod but, I want all of the children of Robert to be complete in their info. Thanks, Sue Ashby

Genny, Why the "I did not realize there were any mistakes. I just forwarded the site as I > found it." Who said there was errors?? You did a good thing! you sent a website where additional information can be found.. That is excellent! THank you.. keep up the good work.. My comments were just additional information and not correcting yours...That was why I still do not understand your being so hipper about my addition.. Yes, sometimes freed slaves took on the ex-owners surname, also not all freed slaves wanted thier owners surnames.. but not "all" Free people of Color were ever Slaves! They had it hard as they had to prove they were not runaway slaves pretending to be free people of color... No historical time period or events have absolutes.. things vary.. so did the reasons behind things.. I'm sorry you took anything I wrote as personal to yourself.. Never! Communication is a way of learning...sometimes we learn new things sometimes we don't.. but never a waste of time. Merry Christmas Nelda Nelda Percival IBSSG Volunteer Administrator "Gilpin & Bonstein DNA Project websites - http://freepages.folklore.rootsweb.com/~bonsteinandgilpin/ ~~ LCG&DNARG: http://www.rootsweb.com/~molcgdrg/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Genealogy & DNA are like husband & wife: They work so much better when paired up properly..." Hi, Some errors were made out of it being a real mistake, but some listings were on purpose as in listing Native Americans as Free People of Color. Thier status wasn't considered any better then the free people's of color status. in some census Slaves were recorded as can't remember, but it was either 1/2 or 3/4s of a person. This type of knowledge is needed when studing /researching in the early records of the Eastern States, such as VA. The more knowledge a person has, the better you are at understanding what your relatives went through in thier lives... [email protected], not to start an up roar... but are you sure they were white? have you had thier descendants DNA tested? You would be (can be ) suprised at what results can be found.. no not those tests that estimate your percentage of this or that... I mean a real test of your Haplogroup to find out what it is, Certain haplogroups are found mainly in Native Americans and others are different for African Americans. Soooooo.... we all have those questions.. LOL no don't say you know for sure because my family is English or what ever... The Romans brought soldiers of a Morish ancestry, African ancestry, German ancestry, and others to England. But additionally Native American haplogroups have been found in England...Believed to be descendants of NA taken to England in the 1500 - 1600s. A lot of the early records are still in England.. from 1587 The Lost Colony .. Roanoke Island, NC to the Rev War time period. There are also the Spanish records for areas controled by Spain...Florida, lower Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama areas, French for Louisiana... We have to know some history to know who controled what... I have white relatives who I know where white and the listed them as colored in the marriage register.
Ginny, Wow, sorry if I offended you. Who said they lied.. all I said was that some Native Americans were also listed as Free Persons of Color. If you look at records and the person is listed as a free person of color and you happen to know from researching that the family was really Native American.. But researchers just looking at records wouldn't know if the person listed was actually African American or Native American, so knowing that they were listed that way would be needed information too. You can also find surnames in the early records recording the Native Americans. (The Lost Colony and Jamestown have some of the earliest records available.) These families were also in VA, NC, SC, GA. Merry Christmas LOL.. who isn't relaxed....
