    3. I made a typo on my previous posting. My 3rd great grandfather is John Dale who entered service in the Rev War from Fauquier County in 1779. He lived in various localities after the war but died in White County, Tennessee in 1833. I am looking for anyone of the Dale surname before or around the 1779 time period. Thanks for any information. Marianne Dillow Illinois

I thought they were parents of Duanna Shumate who married Moses Johnson and begat Mary Johnson who married Tim Bray. However, according to the following I found, on the Shumate list, Sarah James was 2nd wife and there were no children by her. The poster of this message seems confident this is factual. "He [another Daniel] is the son of Daniel Shumate and Mary "Unknown" - NOT Sarah Ann James. Daniel didn't marry Sarah Ann James until after Mary died - and after all his children were born. Sarah Ann James was previously married to Peter Cornwell. Daniel had NO children with Sarah Ann James Cornwell. Here are the various collected notes on this: Daniel Shumate entered the Fauquier Co., VA militia in August, 1777, as an Ensign, during the American Revolution. On March 24, 1778, he was recommended as a second Lieutenant. He resigned his commission in May, 1781. Historical Register of Virginians in the Revolution, by John H. Gwathmey Molly Shumate writes, "These children that are listed are by Daniel's first wife who is unknown. His second marriage to Sarah Ann Cornwell (widow) did not result in any children." 3. Hello Shirley: Please be on the "look-out" for a Mary Kendall, also known to have been in the Staunton sanitarium. I sent a letter requesting info on her parents only -- not medical history, and the red tape simply was not worth it. I don't know for certain that this is also the Western State Hospital, but Mary Kendall was admitted as a patient on August 28, 1906. I am trying to find out who she is descended from. 3. OK - it is confusing because of the several Williams. "My" William is the one who married Lavinia Bronnen - daughter Rebecca married John Smith. Rebecca's siblings were William (b. 1754), Mary, Randolph, Elizabeth. The father of William who married Lavinia was also a William, but he would probably be too old to have been the one in the suit.
