Amanda: Further to my last email, please check the marriage record for John Strother Green and Lucinda Gordon Jones at the historic court records website you included in your message. There seems to be a lot of names that would be helpful. Estelle ----- Original Message ----- From: "Amanda E. I have some information that might help confirm your Lucinda Gordon Green Jones. Have you ever heard of Ellwod in Spotsylvania? Ellwood was also known as the Lacy House during the Civil War. So what does this have to do with Lucinda Gordon? William Jones built Ellwood in the 1790's and he or his descendants would own the place for the next century. Wartime owners Betty Churchill Jones (William's daughter) and her husband, J. Horace Lacy, used Ellwood as a summer home. During the Battle of Chancellorsville the house served as a field hospital. General "Stonewall" Jackson's chaplain, Beverly Tucker Lacy (J. Horace's brother) chose the family cemetery at Ellwood to be the final resting place for Jackson's amputated arm. Back to William Jones -- Five years after losing his first wife in 1823, 78-year-old William Jones married his former spouse's 16-year-old grandniece, LUCINDA GORDON. William and Lucinda produced a child, whom William promptly named after his first wife, Betty Churchill. When William died in 1845, Ellwood passed to his wife Lucinda but only as long as she did not remarry. Two years later, Lucinda chose heart over home, married for love and gave up Ellwood to her daughter, Betty Churchill Jones. In 1848, Betty would marry tutor named J. Horace Lacy. The Lacys would own Ellwood until 1907. Remarkably, a great-grandson of William Jones -- a man born in 1750 -- was still living in 1998. I'm following the WRIGHT line discussions and any possible connection to Charles Jones m. Ann Childs who is my brick wall. The only WRIGHT connection that comes close was Elizabeth Wright m. John James. Charles Jones had niece Elizabeth Jane Johnson m. John W. James and from the Chancery Records, he appears to be son of Thomas James m. Hannah Nelson. Thomas James being BROTHER of John James m. Elizabeth Wright. I may possibly have a new lead for finding line of Charles Jones. June is my constant mentor and sounding board and if Charles Jones ever gets solved, it will be largely due to her kind and generous help along with so many others. So thanks to all on this list and here's what I think could be a fresh lead. I'm wide open to any feedback. Thanks, Amanda ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Charles Jones had another niece Tabitha A. Waugh he named in his will. (1846) 2. Tabitha A. Waugh on 1860 Fauquier Census and living one house down from her was Lewis Ellis. (Her will 1868) 3. Lewis Ellis had sister Lucy Ellis who was second wife of Francis T. Martin. They had daughter Eliza Ann Martin m. William A. McConchie. William A. McConchie a WITNESS on Will of Charles Jones. William A. McConchie was NEPHEW of Milly McConchie m. James Childs and parents of Ann Childs m. Charles Jones. 4. Lewis Ellis also had another sister Betty S. Ellis m. Nathaniel Gordon. I THINK they had a daughter Lucinda Gordon that married William Jones who had brother Churchill Jones. 5.Marriage Nathaniel Gordon -mr- Betty S. Ellis, daughter of Hezekiah Ellis Family Hezekiah Ellis, father of Lewis Ellis Record 94-4 6. I have a question about Wright. In the 1910 census Thomas Smoot has listed as his sister in law a Josaphine Wright 62 (widow) which makes her being born about 1848. I have searched and searched and can find no Josaphine or Josephine Wright. Thomas Smoot was married twice once to a Roberta Fletcher and once to a Sarah Welch. Can find no connection there. Do you have anything on her. Love to know.
Dear Robert, Forgot to mention that if there is any chance that I can fill in any information that you might need on the Wright Family, I would be glad to do so. I doubt??since you have so much I would be of any help. But willing to give it a try. June -----Original Message----- From: Robert N. Thanks Robert, Wright Family is not a direct line of mine. Helping out a friend, and while helping her I thought I would post findings to Fauquier Co hoping it will help others.? Our interest right now is: John P. Kelly married Margaret James d/o John James and Elizabeth "Betsy" Wright d/o Capt. James Wright.?? We are trying to figure out if the Wright or Kelly families are related to a Charles Jones who married a Mildred McConchie. They had no issues. Charles Jones died 1849 and he is our brick wall. I appreciate any sharing? if you have any leads to this Charles Jones. He is possibly a Charles S. Jones. His name shows up with the James' often. Again thanks. Amanda: After checking my Fauquier County map I see that TinPot Run does run south of Remington, VA and ends at the Rappahannock River. You may want to consider looking in Remington as well. Summerduck Road runs into Remington, VA. Estelle ----- Original Message ----- From: "Amanda E. We've passed through the Summerduck community numerous times going to Goldvein to visit cousins. Summerduck is a small crossroads community. Take Rt. 651 off Hwy. 17 to get there if coming from the south. 651 is Summerduck Road. From north off Hwy. 17 take Rt. 637, then left on 651. The intersection of 637 and 651 is Summerduck. Roads are marked very clearly off Hwy. 17. I hope someone on the list will direct you to ancestor property. Do what I did and call the Wildlife Management office and ask for the park ranger there at Chester Phelps Wildlife Management. Once you get thru to someone there, explain your intentions. Your ancestor property may be a part of the Wildlife Management Area. I got lucky and spoke with the ranger at the G. Richard Thompson Wildlife Management Area and he knew EXACTLY where my ancestor property was that is now part of the Wildlife Management Area. Matter of fact, we are planning to visit in 2 weeks and he will meet us and show us what's left of the house and hopefully we will be able to identify an unmarked family cemetery there. Planning trip to Warrenton in June. Meeting up with some relatives there but none of us know the area referred to as SUMMER DUCK. I'd like to try to get as close to where my 5x great grandfather owned land as possible. Also, if any of you have lived there all your life and really know the land and early history, families, etc. we'd love a tour? Get in touch with me off list if that's a possibility. Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks all! Amanda ----------------------------------------------------------------- Here are the names and I'd like to try to come as close to where these people lived as possible: In Chancery Records, it gives a survey of the land that Alexander McConchie deeded to his son Robert McConchie m. Mary Ann King. Mary McConchie was gdn. of sons Robert King McConchie and William A. McConchie. It goes on to say that this land is bordered by land of William Embrey but I also find EMMONS name. ----------- Then Thomas Keith was tax collector in area where Alexander McConchie lived. Also, Thomas Keith m. Judith Blackwell. They had son Tarleton F. Keith m. Elizabeth C. Stone. Tarleton F. Keith was witness on Will of Ann McConchie. Elizabeth C. Stone d/o of William Stone. William Stone and Charles Jones also proved Will of Ann McConchie. So, I know I'm in the right neighborhood by this. Can anyone get me close to some of these places named? List of Taxable Property taken by Thomas Keith, 1783 Thomas Keith's District 8 began at Elk Run Church and ran down [south] to the Deep Run Bridge then down the Run [the boundary with Stafford] to the Rappahannock, then up the river to the mouth of Tin Pott [Tinpot Run], from thence to Rogues Road leading into the main [Winchester to Falmouth] road by Joseph Morgan's, thence down it to Marrs Run, then along Bradford's Road to the beginning. Shirley, I have some information on the Harnette County North Carolina Holders. I will share with you if this is part of the Holders that you are working on. Some of these books advertised on e-bay may have been filmed by the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Do a title search for Some Prominent Families of Virginia in the Family History Library Catalog on _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) . And then do a PLACE search for Fauquier Co. -- or any other county in the US--and England--and you name it!!! I found that several volumes of the above-named book have been filmed by FHL, and furthermore, there is an index. Whether the index has been filmed, I did not check. Here is some information about this book: Vol 1 - FHL US/CAN Film 1036136 Item 1 Vol 2 FHL US/CAN Film 844907 Item 1 Vol 3-4 FHL US/CAN Film 1036136 Items 2-3 If you live near an LDS Family History Center, you probably can borrow these filmed volumes for a limited time for a small fee. Be careful what you order, however, if your time is limited. Reading on microfilm is time-consuming. Does anyone know whether these volumes have been digitized? I did not do a google.com search. Here is some information about the index, which is newly [relatively speaking] published. It has not been filmed. Conroe, Texas : Montgomery County Genealogical & Historical Society, c1980-1981 If you do a google.com search for the name of the author Pecquet du Bellet, Louise (http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=authordetails&authorno=5320&name=Pecquet+du+Bellet,+Louise) , you will find a brief sketch of a description--but not a listing of surnames. I suspect for Fauquier Co. genealogical research, one would more likely be pleased with books [many of them paperback] by John K. Gott and Mr. Alcock. Do some research on the Family History Library Catalog on _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) before ordering some old books, sight unseen. There are probably other books on Fauquier Co. which I have not had the opportunity of exploring. If your folks were of colonial German origin and in Fauquier or Culpeper Co. [and their parent counties such as Orange and Prince William], subscribe to the Germanna Colonies rootsweb!!! One of the messages on this list in the last few days refers to the above subject surname. While I am unfamiliar with this name, I did read some of the messages. One line caught my eye: Boonesborough, now in Madison Co., KY was mentioned. Those of you who have access to the online database HeritageQuest through your local [or nearby] public library may want to search for a book named Boonesborough. The author is George W. Ranck, and the book was originally a publication of the Filson Club in Louisville, KY. I have not checked to see whether there is an index but be sure to look over the Appendices. Excuse me for not giving more information. I researched this book long ago and have not since looked at it. Also, there is a Calendar of Kentucky Papers published by the Historical Society of Wisconsin which refers to MANY inhabitants of early Kentucky. Of course, until ca 1792 or so, Kentucky was claimed by Virginia, and a good many people poured into Kentucky from all parts of the then United States--Virginia, of course, Pennsylvania, North Carolina [Col. Richard Henderson of Boonesborough, a part of Transylvania Colony was from Granville Co., NC], Maryland--you name it. Hope you enjoy learning some additional history of our great [but diminishing] United States. E.W.Wallace **************It's Tax Time! Get tips, forms, and advice on AOL Money & Finance.
