    3. Hello there. My family are planning a trip to Fauquier this weekend, in order to take photographs of the area my ancestors lived in. Would anyone on the list have advice on locating Neavil's Mill, or the site where Neavil's Ordinary stood? We're coming in from Kentucky, and armed with only a couple of photos of the historical markers. I have notes that the markers are near Rogues and Old Auburn Roads. If anyone knows the area and has suggestions for routes, I'd be most grateful. I can be contacted offlist at Nmissi At Gmail Dot com. Missi

    2. Maybe calling the telephone number below someone could be of help on the directions to the grave site June ------------------------------- This is a newspaper article appearing in the Rappahannock News, Washington, VA - Thursday, November 7, 1991 BURKE GRAVE HONORED The Culpeper Minute Men Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will hold a special ceremony at the recently discovered grave site of Revolutionary War soldier William Burke. William Burke, who has many descendents living in Fauquier and Rappahannock counties, was born April 2, 1752, a son of Thomas and Jane Burke of St. Paul's Parrish, Stafford County. According to the marriage records of King George County, William Burke married Susanna Sweeney, on Feb. 1, 1778. Soon after this marriage William Burke joined the Sixth Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line, commanded by Col. John Green of Fauquier County. The descendents of William Burke are invited to attend this ceremony and grave marking which will take place at the family cemetery, which is located near Orlean, on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 9. 1. [VAFAUQUI] Need directions to BURKE-SHAW CEMETERY near Waterloo?
    2. Amanda E. Douglass
    3. Hey All, Back on Nov. 1991 the Culpepper Minute Men Chapter of SAR had a grave marking ceremony for Patriot William Burk enlisted in the Sixth Regiment of the Continental Army in the spring of 1778 and served until Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown in 1781. My cousin Artie is trying to get in touch with a Burke descendent that has been to this cemetery for directions. I just wanted to see if anyone knows how to get to this cemetery? The only directions that were in the article were: "This old cemetery is on the north side of the Rappahannock River, west of the village of Waterloo and near where Bee Branch runs into the Rappahannock. It is reached by taking Rt. 211 west from Warrenton and then turning North on Rt. 688 (Waterloo to Orleans.)" CMM provided me with some wonderful photographs of the ceremony, the people who attended, etc. but I don't believe there is any further information on file for directions to this cemetery. If any of you gents are presently in this Chapter and can access past newsletter, Muster Call 1991, it might list the marking of this grave and the location? I'm driving up from NC and will be in Warrenton June 3-5 and really wanted to see this cemetery. I just recently got approval on DAR supplemental line for William Burk so if anyone is descended from William Burke m. Lucy Amiss, I have proved William Burke's line back to this Patriot. I'd be happy to share the proving documentation for this line. Thanks! Amanda

    3. Hi, There was a Johns family is Montgomery Co., Maryland and may still be in the county. There was a Brook Johns (I believe that was his name) that played a musical instrument and was well known in the county. I believe he died in the last 10-20 years. The Brook family also lived in Montgomery Co., probably in the Norbeck, Olney, and Sandy Spring area. There is also Johns Hopkins University and Hospital in Baltimore. I believe one of the founders was a Johns. Baltimore may be near Cecil County. I realize you're looking for the John family, but the Johns family may be the same. Perhaps someone decided to drop the "S". Valerie ---------------------------------------------- I descend from Mary John daughter of Thomas John, Jr whose will is in Loudoun co., Va. in 1769 that married Martha unknown. Mary John married my grandfather William Lewis. I saw on Rootsweb where she has a brother Daniel, I believe, that moved to Fauquier County. Also, in Loudoun County there is another Thomas John, SR that died in 1770. It isn't clear if SR is the father of JR. I have been told that Thomas John, SR might have come from Cecil Co., MD. I don't know if the John family was in PA before coming to Loudoun and Fauquier counties. I would appreciate hearing from anyone that might know where the John family originated from before coming to Virginia. 3. Hi, I don't think it the same family. I have just found out mine was born 1700 in Cecil Co., Md before coming to Loudoun Co., Va. Before that the land was part of Md and New Castle, Co, Delaware before state lines. I think they were Welsh. I thought I had seen a Daniel John family in Fauquier that was a family member of the ones in Loudoun county, Va. The article begins: I, Robert Lee MARTIN, was born in Lincoln County, Mo., on February 23, 1874. My father, William Henry MARTIN was born in Fauquier County, Virginia and on my mother's side...the HARVEYS, I think were from Tennessee. My mother died when I was four years old and I can just remember her. My father died in 1890 when I was sixteen years old. There were ten children in my family...I being the seventh. Notes: Robert Lee MARTIN's mother, America HARVEY was the third wife of William Henry MARTIN. William was previously married to (1) Eliza DAVIS and after she died, he married her sister, (2) Emily DAVIS, who died about 1860. Then he married (3) America HARVEY. From these three families, William sired 21 children. He married one more time to (4) Minnie COURATHERS, with whom he had no children. Link: http://www.mogenweb.org:80/lincoln/bios/bio-martin.htm
