    1. [VAFairfax] Re: How Many Gilbert Simpsons in Fairfax/Loudoun Counties, Virginia
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. I did most of my research 20 years ago, spending about a month in Fayette Co, PA then. I am just now returning to this research after recently retiring from the Air Force. When looking at census records for possible descendents of Gilbert ("of the Mill") Simpson in Fayette Co, PA, I have notes that show in the 1860 census, page 158, Jefferson Township, Fayette Co, three Simpson families living close together. The first is headed by a Gilbert Simpson, age 46, with 9 children (including a boy named James and a baby named Gilbert), near by there is another James Simpson, age 66, and another James Simpson, age 27. I believe all three heads of household are identified as "M" which I was told stood for mulatto. In the 1850 census, same area, two children (James and Martha Simpson) of the above Gilbert Simpson, show up under the Walter B. Chalfant household page 565, family 212. I too will try to look further at census records, but I suspect you may ! be able to make more sense out of it than I. Thanks.
