If my connections are correct I descend from their daughter, Elizabeth, who married a William YEARY in 1792. The reason I am posting to a Fairfax Co., VA site is because the land that Jeremiah McCarty leased appears to be in the area of Loudoun that is on or near the Fairfax Co. line. Any info would be appreciated

    3. Hi jtscott, I am researching my Smith's. Reuben Smith immigrated from Va to Lincoln Co, Ky. Some of his children were named Hubbard as 1st name or middle name. I wonder if there is a connection? Elias Smith (my 3rd great grandfather) named one son Elias Hubbard. Elias's brother was named Hubbard. 2. Charles Williams
    3. Three of these surnames -- Hubbard, McCarty and Smith -- that you cite are associated with the history of my ancestor George Williams, who lived along the Fairfax/Loudon line in this time period. I do not, however, any of them are necessarily related to yours. One Hubbard of whom I know, located near the Fairfax/Loudoun line, was a fellow tenant of Thomas Ludwell Lee on land near present-day Vienna. While the actual leases are missing (Fairfax Deed Book H), there is an index in another volume that indicates in the 1765-1770 time period, that Ralph Cotton, Robert Davis, Jacob Hubbard, Daniel Jenkins, Thomas Lyister (Lester), Samuel Thompson and my direct ancestor, George Williams leased land from Lee. This index to a lease is the first known record of my George Williams. George's daughter Elizabeth married Thomas McCarty, son of James McCarty and Nancy Ann Bosely in 1777-78; they emigrated to Kentucky, perhaps first to land in what is now Bourbon County, bequeathed to Elizabeth by her father in his 1794 will, but ultimately residng and dying in Meade Co. KY The elder George's son George (1765-1845), a contemporary of the George you have listed, also married a Smith in what was very close to the time frame of the other George Wiliams cited in your posting -- a Rachel Smith, dau. of Charle Smith and Mary Ann Crowe. It may be just an interesting set of coincidences -- I don't immediately see any evidence of relation among your and my groups of Williams', Hubbards, Mcarty and Smith. But if you see or know of anything, please let me know. Ken Smith wrote: >Hi jtscott, I am researching my Smith's. Reuben Smith immigrated from Va to Lincoln Co, Ky.
