Hello Cousin Allen Fairfax, I believe we may learn something if we can determine the names of the British Soldiers in the British Regiments in North Carolina Skirmishes during the 1776 - 1783 timeframe???? Maybe somebody can help us do a lookup for any FAIRFAX British soldiers??? Possibly somebody can check the Raleigh, NC State Archive "Lewis FAIRFAX" file? There is a location called "Tories Island" near the "Wolf Pen Swamp" area between Fair Bluff, NC - Columbus County, and Chadburn, NC - Columbus County which was used as a refuge for loyalists during the Revolutionary War, but the area would have been referenced in either Brunswick County or Bladen County, NC since Columbus County, NC was not set up until 1805/1806. Maybe somebody with Ancestry.com access can see if they have developed such a listing yet? Great discussion! THANKS! If the "heirs of William Fairfax" lived in North Carolina, even if William Fairfax did not fight for a NC regiment, were the heirs (by virtue of currently living in the state) eligible for a land warrant from the state of NC? Also, I believe we now know all the names of the sons of this William Fairfax (hezekiah, Jonathan, William, John..???) ... I never saw one of our names listed ... I believe I was intriqued by one of the sons of Jonathan or William Jr. who was named Peter, but the date for our Peter in North Carolina was all wrong to be the same person ... still, it may indicate a family name somehow and some relative of Peter-NC ... I may be getting some of these generations mixed up as I write off the top of my head!! I believe William died in 1793 (a transcription copy of his will should be in a packet I sent you) ... what might be possible is that these Maryland Fairfaxes were cousins of this other group of Fairfaxes who were in Virginia in the early 1700s (James and Peter), Peter eventually moving to NC around 1750 ... If you look in the notes I sent, I mentioned a Lewis Fairfax who is possibly the "heir" of the William in NC ... there supposedly is a file on this at the archives in Raleigh that I haven't checked ... I think the NC Fairfaxes almost got wiped out during the Revolutionary War, and that's why we don't know much ....Dormand, Herrenton, Micajah, Lewis were all young children and did not have much memory of their fathers?? I also thought that Ignatious Flowers might have been a link to the Maryland Fairfaxes, because that is where he was from (some note somewhere??) .... Anyway, it sure would be nice to know if this Peter Fairfax is ours before one of us goes over to England and visits the church where a Peter Fairfax married a Lydia Booth ... tickets on USAir right now are only $290!!
