She was born April 14, 1939, in Newton, Mass., to Clara (Welch) and Thomas Waters. She was raised primarily in Massachusetts, and was a 1956 graduate of Ayer High School in Ayer, Mass. In 1960, she received a bachelor's degree in education from Framingham State College in Framingham, Mass. She taught elementary school in Fairfax County, Virginia, for 33 years, retiring in 1994. Following retirement, she volunteered as an English as a Second Language teacher for several years. In 1999, she moved to Lancaster County, Va., where her family had maintained a second home since 1978. She moved to Newport in October 2005. Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Alan Trickey of Newport; a son, David Trickey of Green Bay, Wis.; a foster son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Camille O'Neill of Falls Church, Va.; two granddaughters, Tani O'Neill and Hana O'Neill, both of Falls Church, Va.; a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and John Ward of Easton, Md.; a sister-in-law and her husband, Kathleen Trickey and Juan Alvarez of Santa Fe, N.M.; a nephew, Nicolas Baca Jr. of Mexico City; and a niece, Erica Baca of Dallas, Texas. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. April 14 at the family home in Newport. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Foundation for Cancer Research. Bateman Funeral Home of Newport is handling the arrangements.
