Hi Debbie, Thomas, John, and Edward FORD are mentioned numerous times in Beth Mitchell's Fairfax County Road Orders 1749-1800. You can find it with a Google search. It's in Acrobat format; an index of personal names begins on page 194. First mention of John and Thomas FORD is 20 Mar 1754. First mention of Edward is 23 Nov 1768, when he replaced Peter Mauzy as Surveyor of the Road. The Road Orders provide clues as to where people lived and who their neighbors were. Apparently there were numerous surveyors appointed, each responsible for a certain stretch of road. The Will of Catherine Padderson dated 21 May 1739 was witnessed by Thomas FORD, Jane FORD, and Ann GLADDING. Thomas FORD also did the estate inventory with Tho. ELZEY [Thomazin ELLZEY, son of Lewis?] and Richard SIMSON. Catherine Padderson was the re- married widow of William GOING, who died in 1725. Do check out the Fairfax County Road Orders. You may find some valuable clues there.
