Hi Debbie, Thomas, John, and Edward FORD are mentioned numerous times in Beth Mitchell's Fairfax County Road Orders 1749-1800. You can find it with a Google search. It's in Acrobat format; an index of personal names begins on page 194. First mention of John and Thomas FORD is 20 Mar 1754. First mention of Edward is 23 Nov 1768, when he replaced Peter Mauzy as Surveyor of the Road. The Road Orders provide clues as to where people lived and who their neighbors were. Apparently there were numerous surveyors appointed, each responsible for a certain stretch of road. The Will of Catherine Padderson dated 21 May 1739 was witnessed by Thomas FORD, Jane FORD, and Ann GLADDING. Thomas FORD also did the estate inventory with Tho. ELZEY [Thomazin ELLZEY, son of Lewis?] and Richard SIMSON. Catherine Padderson was the re- married widow of William GOING, who died in 1725. Do check out the Fairfax County Road Orders. You may find some valuable clues there. Hi: Yes, I see Ford, Edward 1782 LIST Interested in the other FORDs there whose names are similar to those found with my Henry FORD. ie. Elisha, SPENCER, WOODYARD etc. John Ford m. Rachel Spencer. I belive Rachel is related to the Shelton-Spencer line, their son Josiah married my Henry Ford's daughter. John Ford and Rachel Spencer also had a son, Elisha, as did my Henry Ford. Earlier, Rev War Vet. Elisha Ford had YATES and WOODYARD heirs. Hence my interest in the Fairfax Co. Cemetery.. Thanks Deb --- "P. Baber [mailto:pbaber@ns.gemlink.com] Sent: Friday, June 24, 2005 3:07 PM To: Fairfax, Dan Subject: Fairfax questions Hey Dan, I hope I am a 'cousin'. My Wilt family has been difficult to research. I have some old family notes that say my gggrandfather George Washington Wilt's sister, Nancy, was married to Ferdinand Fairfax. When I looked up the 1870 marriage record, it gave her name as Nancy Richards, parents John & Jane Richards. (Ferdinand is son of Uriah and Mary Fairfax.) George's marriage record indicates his parents as Peter and Jane Wilt. Nancy was 22 in 1870(b.1848); George was 30 in 1866, and according to his death cerficate he was born June 24, 1836. George's mother, Jane, is listed in the Fairfax co. 1850 census with children, Mary 24, Elizabeth 17, George 14, and another daughter whose name is difficult to read, but is indexed as and appears to be Mandula, age 4. So, nothing adds up, which makes genealogy so interesting (and frustrating). I've researched the other daughters and Mary was married to George Munday, but her death certificate says her parents were George Wilt and Catherine Virts/Virtz. Her marriage record had no parents listed. Elizabeth was married to George Gaines, and her marriage record says her parents were ----- and Jane Wilt. She died in 1908 so a death certificate is not availabe for her, at least at the state level. Perhaps I can find something in Fairfax county. I've been in contact with Walt Warnick who wrote a book about the Wilt's but we have not been able to determine who the parents of Peter Wilt were. There is supposed to be a book out there called "John Wilt's book" which was in possession of Robert F. Hayes in 1937. He was editor of the Maryland Genealogical Bulletin. Nobody knows what became of the book. So to answer your question, I don't know if I am a Fairfax descendant or not. I know I am a Wilt descendant and that's about all I know concerning this line.
