It is either in Frederick or Clark County. On the map, look west of Washington, DC to I-81 and then north. Perhaps the town was named after a Winchester family member. Could I ask for another favor of info? On the Chopawamsic Baptist Church records in Stafford County (was situated on connecting boarder of Prince William and Stafford County) in 1767 was (what looks like a couple) John Summers and an Elizabeth Summers. Other Summers listed there are Thezeah Summers, Samuel Summers. I believe this to be John Summers who was married to an Elizabeth Carter ( her last name not proven yet). Could you tell me how many John Summers there were in that area of Virginia at that time? Do you know the identity of the John Summers at Chopawamsic Baptist Church? I believe he might be the same John Summers who went on later to Clark County, Kentucky. I believe one of the John Summers of Clark County, Ky. to be the John Summers who lived past 114 years old. In the an 1818 Kentucky Gazette was an article on a Montgomery County, Kentucky John Summers at age 112. He was born July 12, 1706. Any help figuring out which John Su! mmers this is would be appreciated. He was probably from Prince William County, Va. The other John Summers in Clark and Montgomery County, Ky. was the John Summers born 1764 whom married Agnes Bell, he stated in his pension papes that he was born in Prince William County, Virginia. I believe he was the son of the John Summers who lived past 114 years old. The 1820 census for Delaware County, Indiana has a John Summers 114 years old, the census taker added a note about him in the margin. there are several statements found from grandchildren of this man, stating he lived to be between 116-119. He had moved on to Indiana with his children. I would appreciate any info to identify this "Old" John Summers.
This is my first attempt to locate military records for my husband's great-grandfather John F. Saunders of Fairfax County, VA. I do know from his orbit that he serviced in the Confederate Army. Also, I found a pension record for his wife Saunders, Georgia A., Fairfax, Act of 1928, Memo. 4-26-28, $100.00. The pension record was found online. Also, in the Fairfax County paper, dated May 8, 1889, list the Roll of Co. G, Eighth Regiment Virginia Infantry, Organized at Dranesville, and Mustered into the Confederate Service at Centerville, July 16, 1861. There is a Sanders, J.F. listed is a private. However, I'm not certain if this is the correct Saunders/Sanders. I do know that both spellings of the name were used in his family, but the pension record has the spelling of Saunders. How do I go about getting copies of his military records and the pension records? Is it possible to have someone research this for me? Any help would be appreciated. Kathie Saunders

This John Summers is shown on the Delaware County, Indiana 1820 census, and the census taker made a notation: "This man is 114 years old never lost sight or hearing has upward of four hundred descendants and has had two wives by each has ten children" I believe this "Old" John Summers born 1706 to be the father of John Summers born 1764 in Prince William County, Va. who married Agnes Bell. His grandchildren made statements that their grandfather lived to be 114-119 years old (depending on which account you read). How many John Summers were there that lived to be this old? Both of these John Summers men lived at one time in Montgomery County, Ky. and I believe one of them was the Elder of Lulbegrud Baptist Church which was formed in Clark County, Kentucky in 1793 (later Montgomery Co.) Also one of them I believe was the man my ancestor Edward Williams sold land to in Clark County in 1794. I am trying to connect the John Summers born 1706 to the Chopawamsic Baptist Church Stafford County, Va. in 1767. On the list of members is whom I believe to be my ancestor Edward Williams and wife Jemimah Williams and also shown is a John Summers and an Elizabeth Summers who joined the same day. I believe the John Summers listed there at Chopawamsic Baptist Church to be the husband of Elizabeth Carter Summers, daughter of a Sarah Muse Carter Thorn Wilson (she was either born a Muse or married a Muse first time). Other son-in-laws of Sarah's are there and also another daughter, plus extended family members of one son-in-law. Any help identifying the John Summers at Lulbegrud Baptist Church or Chopawamsic would be appreciated.
I am looking for information on John Cadwalader who was in Fairfax before he most likely came to Bedford Co Va around 1791. Also am looking for Thomas Cadwalader who bought land in Bedford Co Va in 1774. Any help is greatly appreciated. Bobbi
In general for research in records of this era, it's not so much misspelling as it the common practice at that time of phonetic spelling. For example, a daughter of the earliest known member of my Fairfax County Williams line married Demoville Talbott. I have seen his given name spelled Demoville, Demovil, Demoval, Demourville (a surname in his mother's family from which it is taken) and , my personal favorite, "D. Movil". Not to mention the variants of Talbott, Talbot, Talbert, etc. It seems that clerks, census-takers and other record-keepers wrote down what they heard, and many communities at the time were small enough that it would be pretty clear who they meant. There is one resource that I thought of trying and it turns out to be amazing. In The Diaries of George Washington 1748-1770, Vol. 1, edited by John F. Fitzpatrick ,George mentions everyone one he had contact with. There are foot notes with great genealogical references, an example: George William Fairfax (1725 -1787) was the eldest son of Honorable William Fairfax and his second wife Sarah Walker. He was born at Providence, Bahama Island 2 Jan 1724/5*. . . Resource There are too many surnames to try and copy here. Your Liberian will be able to find a copy. There is no index, so I can not look up people. Helen *England, and Europe (except Russia) did not adopt the Gregorian calendar, until 1752. Thanks for the hints. I will seek out the books you mentioned at our library. This is why I'm confused. My seond great grandfather, Nimrod William Trammell was b. in Fairfax County 1840-42 (depending on which census you believe). He stated on his marriage license in 1875 that his parents were Jarrett and Ann Trammell of Fairfax County, Va. I have a marriage license for Jarrett and Bytha Daily in Washington DC in April 1837. (Assuming this to be Tabitha). In 1850 census for Dranesville, we find Tabitha Trammell (a widow) living with her brother, Alexander Daily and two sisters, along with three children, George, Margaret and John. However, Nimrod is not living there. He, instead, is living with Jared Trammell, a schoolteacher, Ann and Mahlon Trammell. We again find him with Jared in 1860. In 1870, after a stint in the Union army and being wounded at Chancellorsville, he is back in Providence County, working on a farm, not his own. I have read several accounts in Family Trees where they state that Tabitha and Alexander were married, not true. I am really confused about the "widow" part. Jared is over 80 in 1860, leaving him a little old to have fathered Nimrod, but not out of the question. Is Ann is mother? I have a million questions and no answers yet. Thanks for letting me tell the story! Re the Dailey family...I think they came from Maryland, at least that's what the census indicates, but Alexander, Matilda, Hanna and Tabitha were all born in Virginia.
